A Hotter Future Is Certain, but How Hot Is Up to Us.

Extent of Pollution is always relative in nature . As on date EV is a better option compared to available fuels , hence the push . Those who are already in legacy business will resist. Exploration of oil wherein you dig deep everywhere right from land to sea is neither sustainable nor good for the envt in the long term . Maybe in the future better ways of manufacturing batteries will be invented .
It is the obligation and duty of governments in every country to generate electricity using progressively cleaner sources of energy.
It is our obligation to shift to cleaner and less polluting transportation.

It’s a win for everyone.

The challenges is this huge shift are significant for governments and for individual citizens.

There will always be sceptics, and nay sayers. Current battery tech will always be compared to ICE performances.

But the real question is “do we have a choice? And how long will the shift take?

But as the song goes “…times, they are changing…”

I think we are all in agreement that exploitation of human labour in any industry is despicable.
Exploitation of children is specially so whether it’s in coal or lithium mining, in brick making, fireworks, textile, garages, restaurants or any industry.
Again it’s the duty of governments everywhere, state and central to ensure this does not happen. It’s also our duty to report such instances when it happens.

There is as we know a strong link between poverty and child labor but this cannot be accepted as an excuse.

Governments need to ensure purchase and imports of mined ores and extracts are from processes that don’t abuse rights of people and children anywhere.

governments and dictators are a function of peoples choices unfortunately

People deserve that they choose as well as for their actions and by corollary... their inactions

None of the top 15 economically advanced nations governments has a sphere of influence beyond their own economic self interest

I agree with the previous post of @arj that these concerns have been there for a long time but as time passes - we see increased effects on the climate for a start.

We seem to be under the delusion that the 100 km or so of atmosphere that separates us from the vacuum of space is un-damageable by any human activity or using economic smarts - we can postpone the damage then it becomes the problem of the next generation

Perhaps our astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will come back to earth safe and emphasize that there are no borders from space..... only 1 fragile bright blue dot

Big Beautiful Blue dot

perhaps.... energy consumption and allied activities have been spun off to some JV or a 3rd party ?? so absolving Apple...
Charging premium prices for their products gives them the option of cleaner processes and less exploitative labour practices.
And why not boast about these? This is worth pointing out

Hmm.. business organizations would ideally prefer highest profit

Premium price less cheapest labour less lowest price for rare earth's...and good publicity .
makes for a great recipe for highest profit which is the reason for existence of all businesses.

Mission and Vision statements put to one side.

Most likely they are buying carbon credits to claim sustainability which is a huge scam!

Nuclear energy has been classified as Sustainable and most cloud/datacenter majors are investing in it !
Wonder who classified it as sustainable ?
Probably the big companies manufacturing these plants…it helps sustain their business.
Next they would be calling it eco friendly!!!

We have been witnessing several incidents of “language nationalism” in many states.
Now Apple claims its next OS update will bring Live Translation.

On Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, users can communicate across languages with text and audio translations in real time.

Wonder if this will help put an end to the politically motivated language wars.

Ever since human beings invented means of communication , disinformation has been a key weapon

@Analogous I for one seeiously doubt this feature will stop wars as wars are about economics or power in the end ..the same as politics.

@arj, probably true that.
I was not referring to any possibility of technology changing the baser human instincts or anything like that.

That would be wishful thinking even with advances in neuralink type tech that’s being developed under the radar.

I was just wondering how the tech of realtime translation of languages would impact on the strategy of using language to discriminate and divide for majoritarian political gains.
