A seminar/ Webinar on room acoustics and placement of speakers

As someone suggested earlier to have it on youtube, i also feel that a you tube chanel to be started for this perticular sessions/presentations. Only hassle is to record it. But beleive me, it will benefit all the members. and all those who are professionals can also shoot their live projects and upload thus by explaining the details etc.
In addition to video conferencing and/or chatroom discussions, i think the idea of youtube chanel also shall be included

Hi Captain,

Please add me to the count, eagerly waiting for Mr. Mazhar's inputs.

Regards

Sir,
I personally feel that these things are best done in person.
There are so many mini meets that get organised;
I went to one a few months back @ The Radio Club.
We should try and come for these.
There we can meet & talk & take questions & discuss it face to face.
There was a great change last week in Mumbai @ What Hi Fi Show.
All FM's could have visited & we could have spoken.
There were 3 seminars in the board rooms - open to all @ Rs. 500/- fee. Great learning possibilities.
I personally feel, audio can only be experienced it cannot be spoken about without live demo.
If I talk about a thing & you cannot hear / feel / experience it - what is its use ? It would be hollow....
Just my 2 cents...

Sir,

I agree with all the thoughts that you have shared in the post above, face to face meetings cannot be replaced by technology. Virtual meetings only work in scenarios where face to face meetings may not be possible, like the one being discussed here.
The way I look at it is, better to have some pointers from a knowledgeable source rather than none.

Regards

I understand where you are coming from. Can we do a mix and match? Book a hall in say Mumbai, where the city enthusiasts can participate in person, if we can arrange to live stream it, then everyone else can participate and gain remotely. For the remote users, it may not be the same experience but it will still be better than no session.

I am sure there would be people in the forum who have skills to get the live streaming done. If not, it can be a recorded session which can be uploaded for posterity in youtube with all Q&A in this forum.

Super idea.
We can also do it in any FM's house.
So long as the room is big enough to accommodate a few FM's that would like to attend;
The problem I see is people are ready to spend time on the computer but do not want to visit & listen & widen their horizon [audio based] - case in point being the What Hi Fi Show. How many FM's visited ? Did we cross 10 ? I don't have figures, but I was in 2 rooms [well most of the time] & I would have met FM's if they came....

I see a genuine lack of interest.
Most people are happy to c/c/p [cut copy paste] from Wiki & other Audio Forum's - no one is interested in listening to the real thing - i.e. music in different environments & forming ones own opinion....

I am sorry if I sound like a 'pessimist' but this has been my observation;

You are probably right but unless we try we will never know. Lots of great ideas fail when we lose hope.

Lets try our best and hope it succeeds.

We could follow it up with other sessions if it succeeds and will inspire people to greater joys of listening to music.

An update:

Out of the three FMs that I had suggested, one is in India but two are located on the other side of the Planet and hence there is almost 12-hour difference with IST. If a webinar is to be organised, it will have to be late evening or early morning which would then be possible only on a weekend i.e. Saturday evening or Sunday Morning.

I'm in talks with them and would provide an update if this would materialise, which I'm hopeful it would. IMO, the seminar should followed by a thread on which these issues could be discussed by members.

I'm also open to the idea suggested by FM Bhagwan. Lets see how it goes.

This is a good initiative and Id like to participate please.

While Im cool with whatever form or content is being planned, what I would personally find most useful is practical usage rather than the theory. The basics (or even advanced knowledge) of speaker placement and room acoustics is widely available on the Internet. Its the real-world implications that are less understood, at least by me.

What I would really like is for a knowledgable member to show us his or her room; point out the issues which create room modes, for instance; then show us the treatments or placement choices that have tackled those issues. Real problems, real solutions.

If we could get more members to do this small tour around their rooms and talk us through their decisions, it would help immensely to get an idea of how the theory of acoustics translates into the real world, with different rooms and different speakers. Perhaps it could be a monthly feature but thats getting far ahead of myself.

In a sense, its what Bhagwan is saying: the need to get out and listen to as many setups in as many environments as possible. However, given that members are dispersed widely across the country, I understand that using the Internet to do this is, if not the most ideal, definitely a more feasible way to involve more of us.

Does this make sense? Is it a good idea? Sounds good to me but I havent had lunch yet and Im hungry which could possibly be impairing my rational judgement.

Somehow missed this thread CaptRajesh; pl do count me in.
Indeed a great and much needed initiative.

thanks

It would be suitable for me. :thumbsup:

@captrajesh - nos 27-48 are repeat of 4-25
Which are these? There are only 32 people in the list.
:confused:

Didnt get a chance to read from start of where and whens its happening. But I am definitely in.

May sound harsh to those who invested a lot without it but I honestly believe buying any speaker is a waste unless u treat the room well.
