There are a few FMs doing some awesome work, but few are aware of them.
FM N. Raghunadh from Hyderabad is one of those ace diyers.
He has previously posted his DIY plinth and ST70 restoration.

He is now building no-expenses spared preamp and ST70 clone tube amp.
This is possibly the best effort I have seen from India, built ground up locally,
except for the Edcor OPTs.

I am taking the liberty to post his work in progress pics link for your
viewing pleasure.

Awesome. I wonder if he will build one for me ... :ohyeah:

Or maybe a group buy will cut down his costs .. if FMs are interested in owning a piece of the legendary ST-70 ... :licklips:

The one thing more wonderful than having a pro engineering workshop would be --- having the skill to use it! Amazing work.

Excuse my electronics ignorance, but what is this? It looks like some sort of transformer, maybe, but I never saw one that looked anything like that! Not that I've really seen many :o

This is a Toroidal transformer with DIY cover .Raghu has filled this up with some potting material.

Ahhh... Thanks. I wasn't so far off :)
some potting material.
I used to work in London factory that made stuff like that. I used to mix the materials, which included a black powder that was so fine it took a week of baths to get it out of your skin...

But that's another story :)
