Acoustic Portrait Product Launch

Acoustic Portrait is the audiophile electronics label.

The Swara line is the brand in which the parts are built to a price point.
Typically the designs are trickled down from the reference.
The Pi DAC comes under this brand.
There is a Preamp, Tube Buffer and Power Amp in the pipeline.

The Thyaga brand is the reference brand - which had the earlier DAC and Transport.
The new Integrated is under this brand. A new DAC is planned under this brand.

The MS 601 speakers is under the Corson brand which is for speakers and HT/Pro gear.

This is good news. All that will be needed is a speaker (bookshelf?) to match the Swara electronics.
A link to Corrson on the AP site and vice versa would be nice, I feel.

every indian brand goes through their brand bashing to some extent, after all it is indian so should not be good and not cost much(indian minset). some brands survived decades thanks to low profile presence and price points they offered. sometimes converse also happens of a product being no great shakes but gets promoted by band loyalists. so end result is that they will always be +ve and -ve. ultimately a prospective end user should go, hear and decide himself whether he likes or not.

@Nikhil,

Thanks for the wonderful, simple and precise first impression. I missed the event due to a personal commitment :(.

I have one question on the new Integrated Amp. Does this amp have a pre-amp bypass option, so that I can use only the power amp section with my own pre. I would like to try the power amp section with my DIY DCB1 and Pass B1.

Thanks,
John.

Hi John,

No the Integrated does not have a preamp bypass option.
The reason Siva gave was that he felt that these features affect the sound.

Regards.

+1 to that.

It might be a good idea for Siva to have 3 product ranges
1. Entry level - Swara, with speakers, amplifiers & DAC. Missing the speaker right now in the range. Can be priced in the 1L range for all three together, and can offer a good entry point to the brand.
2. Mid level - There is a speaker and integrated amplifier now. Missing the DAC. Can be priced in the 2-3L range for all three
3. Reference level - I know of a DAC and pre-power amplifier in the range. Not sure about speakers. No idea where this should be priced at - guessing 4L+

This may give most audiophiles (budding & established) who like the AP house sound a product range to suit their needs and pockets. It will also give a budding audiophile an upgrade path within the same company.

I understand that Siva & Jeya are a small operation, and that their business grows more by word of mouth advertisement. However, a little more structure around the product range will go a long way in building this brand.

Having heard some of their creations, I feel that they deserve more praise than they are getting right now.

Best,

That's an interesting concept.

However, three levels would mean increase in inventory and other related costs.
But yes there is an interest for something just a bit higher than the Swara range.

If they had to use high end Scanspeak drivers the speakers would cost in the Rs 3L price range.

Totally agree here.
Since for any electronics manufacturer to make a profit the product has to be 3-4 times the cost as minimum so hitting price points is not easy
