Moving to US, with or without Acoustic Portrait?

In case you have packed AP , Do put packets of Silica Gel in the box and when you come to India , play it for some time and replace the packets with new Silica gel packets . Dont worry about it getting old / obsolete , in audio world its called as Vintage .

Since you are staying for approx 12 yrs , you can invest in a good gear unless budget is a constraint . This is a long period and why deprive yourself of listening to good music (unless its one or two years) .

Look around and build a system over a period of two years just like you would do if you were in Kolkata . For a temp period go for some budget active speakers and use your phone to stream . or just use your laptop and attach some good speakers to it

Try brands like McIntosh , parasound etc which are American . Don't miss this opportunity to explore HIFI which is available at affordable prices compared to India .

Beautiful advice. Thank you do much.

JBL 705P or JBL 708P or other JBL active monitors are worth giving a shot. Voicing of JBL is very classic. I am sure you can find something in your budget. JBL voicing is just perfect for long listening sessions
How are Audioengine HD6 active speakers

My suggestion for your consideration:
Take a pair of headphones with you and use these while you make a survey of what is on offer there.
It’s a different reality in any other country and the available choices and possibilities are unknown to you at this point.
Maybe, Better not decide on this, here and now.
Effective advice.

Hello Friends
I am moving to USA for good next month
I am considering to take my audio setup after few months of landing in Chicago.

I have acoustic portrait gears:

1. MS 610 tower speaker about 46 kgs
2. Thyaga DAC about 35 kgs
3. Swara integrated amps about about 30 kgs
4. Inter-connects and speaker cables
Dont carry .. u will end up paying more and sometimes legal/customs trouble ..
instead get some new better/stuff in USA , while coming back to india u can bring back that . There things are slightly cheaper than india.

And you will get the trial period for your equipment there where u get opportunity to explore and get better stuff there. if u dont like u can simply return , they will not ask simple question. (except item should not be damaged).

if i am the one i will sell of stuff here and get new stuff in usa.

Hello Friends

Now its about 9 months here in USA, here are some updates about my life here with stereo equipments ... the only thing that did not change are my playlist :)

I started my low budget search through Amazon, Crutchfield, USAudioMart, Facebook Marketplace and similar websites. After some weeks of search I found that I could not trust to buy used gears listening to onky one or two songs, and in some cases buy as is without audition and nobreturn policy. I needed the flexibility to listen to speakers for few weeks before deciding that I will keep it. So I had to go for new ones because here at retail stores and websites the return policies are generous for new equipments.

Amazon review ratings recommended Edifier, but many of you suggested not to buy it.

I bought Klipsch speakers.
For many months, I listened to Klipsch R60M (a lower version of reference premium range Klipsch 600M). I bought them at Costco and bought WiiM Ultra Streamer/DAC/Amp at Amazon. Between the two models of Klipsch R 60M and RP 600M I found no difference in the sound quality, however they differ in size.

Now about the source, I streamed from Amazon Music (non HD version) and tried Tidal for 1 month. Quality of music in Tidal is superior to Amazon Music and that difference I can tell from every song I heard in Tidal. So, I went for paid version of Tidal, thanks to my daughter, her student status helped to get 50% discount. (Well spent $5.49/month)

Today I returned Klipsch and bought Kef LSX II LT . Its about 4 hours I am listening to Kef and I find they are way better than Klipsch. The vocals are more transparent, the soundstage is crisper and wider, the lows have more body to it, and highs are sweet. And they look fabulous in my small room (pic attached). These are active speakers unlike Klipsch RM 60M or RM 600M, so I could remove WiiM from the set up.

I think I like to cleaner set up and cleaner sound signature. Kef does not sound like my Acoustic Portrait set up that I have in India, and nor should I expect so, but overall I like the sound and the size/looks of Kef bookshelf speakers. I think these are here to stay for some years :) Only thing I can not decide, is the color - stone white or green moss? White is more elegant and neutral, while green is so unique and complements the colors of my indoor plants ... your suggestions are welcome.

Price:
WiiM Ultra $ 529, Klipsch RM 60M $ 250
Kef LSX II LT: $ 599 at Costco, and they are sold $ 999 elsewhere

Good advice, thanks. Went for new Kef today
Cholbey Naa ! Dada! Kaeno? Don't get this. Keep waiting and watching unless you are desperate.

I have heard them couple of times. These are very bright speakers. Very few will consider them if you typically have long listening sessions. Initially you tend to like them as they give very bright presentation but over a period in the same listening session, it will be tend to give you listening fatigue.
Exactly that is the precise reason I returned Klipsch... inistal few songs of listening session is good, but after 2 to 3 hours there is listening stress or fatigue. Likely because of their bright sound signature.

If I take the liberty of comparing this to TV technologies, I found OLED tvs are very attractive at store demos, but when I view them for few hours (movies and specially sports) my eyes hurt and I get head ache; compare that to QLEDs ... QLEDs has subtle balance between brightness, contrast and color loudness, and though it does not have "spice" as OLEDs, but has the softness and viewing pleasure for long sessions.... just my humble experience and I am not generalizing this.
