Dear all.
I have been wanting to buy a hifi AV system ever since i can remember. Now that I can afford a bit, I am planning to buy a 5.1 Home theater system.
My viewing distance is about 11 feet.
My budget is 1.25 lakhs max.
I live in Nagpur, and there isn't too much to audition here. I auditioned a bit in Mumbai.
If you could please help me in choosing:
a. Marantz NR1604 vs. Denon X2000 AVR
b. For the fronts and centres: Wharfdale 10.1 vs. Dali Zensor 1

Here are some of the options i was offered:
1. From hifimart.com:
Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 Speakers
Wharfedale Diamond 10.CS Centre Channel Speakers
Wharfedale Diamond 10.DFS Rear Surround Speakers
Wharfedale SW-150 Subwoofer
Denon AVR-X2000 AV Receiver
Total Cost:Rs, 129,000
The same with with Marantz 1604 instead of Denon X2000: Rs. 120,000

2. From a local distributor:
Denon AVR X2000
Dali Zensor1 - 2 rears + 2 fronts
Dali Vokal centre
Velodyne Impact 10 sub
Total Cost: Rs. 149,900

3. From the same distributor
Denon AVR X-2000
Wharfdale 121 - 2 rears + 2 fronts
Wharfdale 102 C centre
Wharfdale SPC 8 Sub
Total Cost: Rs. 152,000

I will not be using stands for the bookshelves. Please advise what would be my best combination. Are the costs quoted ok? What about Wharfs vs. Dali. Also about the AVR. And finally. is it ok to place wharf 10.1 (rear port) about 10 inches from wall?

Thanks a lot in anticipation

Any particular reason to go for x2000 and not x1000 .? Also look at Polk TSx series .... really shines with x1000 ....

Hi

I would go for the Dali Option, change the subwoofer to Velodyne Impact 12 or Boston Acoustics ASW650.

Here are some speaker combinations which are good.....

Option 1
Dali Zensor 7 Front Towers
Dali Zensor 3 Rear Bookshelf
Dali Zensor Vokal Centre
Subwoofer Velodyne Impact 12 or Definitive Pro Series or Boston Acoustics ASW 650

Option 2
Dali Zensor 5 Front Towers
Dali Zensor 1 Rear Bookshelf
Dali Zensor Vokal Centre
Subwoofer Velodyne Impact 12 or Definitive Pro Series or Boston Acoustics ASW 650

Option 3
Bostons Package
Boston Acoustics A 360 Home Theatre Package

Option 4
Wharfedale
Front Towers
Wharfedale DIAMOND 10.4
Rear Bookshelfs
Wharfedale DIAMOND 10.2
Centre
Wharfedale DIAMOND 10.CM
Subwoofer
Wharfedale DIAMOND SW-150
OR
Boston Acoustics ASW 650 Subwoofer

Option 5
Jamo sets

Jamo : Home Cinema Systems : S606HCS6

Depending on your budget, one of the above options should fulfil quality and powerful sound @ minimum 100 w RMS per channel not forgetting the powered subwoofer which will add extra punch and depth....

In terms of a receiver, the Marantz NR 1604 is good and can fill a room measuring 220 sq ft with ample sound easily. If your room is bigger than 220 sq ft, would recommend you to go for Marantz SR 5008.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot efernand1!
Though i may not be going for tower fronts.. bookshelves for front too..

Efernand1, could you please suggest options for bookshelves. The home theatre wil be placed in the living room, and I wont be using towers here.
Thanks again.
Waiting for your suggestions.

Hi

If you want something small, the B&W CM 1 or CM 5 series are good Bookshelf speakers which can be mounted, placed on iron stands or kept on a certain wall unit / furniture....these are idea and long lasting....not sure of the rate for them though.

A good amp / AVR for them would be Marantz SR series.....SR6008

I will also suggest the Polk with Denon option, value for money proposition, easy availability of replacement drivers and service and really sounds good for HT applications.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
