Airtel DTH HD Audio

The Site is still down. Can you paste the info you stated there?

Unfortunately I don't have everything written down regarding this.

It's not an easy process. I don't wanna miss you anything and mess the things with your HD-DVR. The problem with the process is that once you detach your HDD, the new HDD is not easily recognized by DVR and prior to this you have to take a back up of AIrtel's HDD and place it into new HDD.

That's why it's better to wait for the site to be up and you'll find the whole process to update the internal HDD.

One user of the site had tried it very first time, followed by another user and then I also tried the same process and we were successfully able to replace existing 320GB HDD with a 2 TB HDD with everything working fine.
I had updated some pics also in the thread, that could be helpful.

Please wait for the site to be up. It's better not to take risk because once you open your HD-DVR, Airtel will not entertain warranty period anymore.

Ok sounds very logical. I will wait for the same.

Why would anyone want to go with Airtel HD if they do not carry ESPN HD, Star Sports HD?
Colors etc are not what one would like to see HD.

Hi Josh!
Seems like that site has gone to sabbatical...
Fortunately, I found few screenshots and some pics in my own computer explaining the Airtel STB's HDD upgrade process.

I am attaching all the relevant stuff for the internal HDD upgrade.

https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0BxpF5rA6qcNGZ0tUa2pfVnY5Vnc/edit

Please go through the files in following sequence:
HDD Upgrade (Explain the process in detail, original SOD forum post)
All .PNG files 1 to 6 (Explains the structure of Airtel HDD files, Use of Backup Software)
All .jpg files (STB's internal look and physical replacement of hard drive)

Please note, there is no going back once you start.
- You will loose Airtel's warranty on HD-DVR, as you need to break the plastic paper seal for opening the STB.
- You will loose all your existing recordings, as you need to delete all the current recordings by formatting the STB before you start the upgrade process.
- STB supports 4 GB to 2 TB drive (tried and tested by SOD forum members), don't try more than 2 TB HDD.
???? ???? ??? ?? :-)

You need not to worry about taking the back-up of Airtel STB hard drive.
Let me know your email id and I will send the Airtel's original HDD backup file. Then you can place it into new HDD by using backup software. (I don't want it to spread over internet, hence not attaching here)

Before starting make sure you understand everything. Feel free to ask me if you get any query.

From today morning I am observing, all the movies in star movies hd , movies now hd or any hd channels are coming only in 2 channel, but AVR displays DOLBY DIGITAL.

I have been using it more than 1.5 years, but seeing this behavior only today. do anyone facing this problem?

@pcpraveen,

I am also using the Airtel HD, but I didn't find any problems having the 5.1 audio in HD channels today. Its been coming nicely until now. Please check the connections and setup.

Folks,
I got my Airtel HD Set top box early this year. I had been using 5.1 sound through Optical cable only. But I wish it came through HDMI. Now I see they advertise 7.1. Is that really the case? Anyone got a 7.1? Anyone gets atleast 5.1 sound through HDMI ? Or could it be that they newer HD boxes run 5.1 through HDMI ? Please enlighten me!

Airtel HD box does support 5.1 channel sound through HDMI. There is a setting for that. We need to goto Settings - User Settings - Audio

Here we need to se Dolby Digital Plus for the HDMI audio output. That's it, we will get the 5.1 channel sound on the supported channels. Thanks.
