Airtel DTH HD dolby 5.1 sound with AV receivers

Guys,

Airtel HD box does support 5.1 channel sound through HDMI. There is a setting for that. We need to goto Settings - User Settings - Audio

Here we need to se Dolby Digital Plus for the HDMI audio output. That's it, we will get the 5.1 channel sound on the supported channels. Thanks.

I have this option now on my Airtel HD DVR. Changed the settings and DD was working fine over HDMI, but after a restart (power failure) it stopped working. Tried to go back and reset the audio settings, but still doesn't work.. went back to optical!

It says Dolby Digital over Optical and Dolby Digital Plus over HDMI.

Strange. I don't understand how the power failure can cause this. I had a lot of power failures, but still it works great. Only problem I have is the volume on SD channels is low after setting this option.

Even I have DD and DD+ enabled in Airtel Setup Box, some times the sound comes and sometimes not from HD channels, rest all channels are working fine Any Idea. I have connected via HDMI to SAMSUNG TV & from TV via optical to onkyo 3200

Try connecting from STB to onkyo via optical.

So your connection is, from STB to TV via HDMI and from TV to onkyo via HDMI? Does your TV support HDMI out?

From TV to ONKYO VIa optical. TV Shows dolby digital to pass through optical but no sound in TV or passing via optical

Hi team,
i am fan of this forum but seriously i am facing an issue.
i have a Airtel HD+ STB and philips DSP home theater which is having coxial input so in order to get 5.1 audio i am using an optical to coxial converter so i have i have connected Optical cable from STB to converter and from converter to Philips hometheater by coxial converter.
Everything works fine in stereo mode -- But when I change the "preferred audio over SPDIF" in STB audio setting- to Dolby or Dolby digital plus, there is no sound on HD channels, though sound on SD channels is OK.

I tried changing the sound setting in dth menu also to Dolby digital, but to no avail -- No sound on HD Channels. i am not able to receive 5.1 sound.
in a big hope i ma posting my issue in this portal kindly check and suggest me pls waiting for reply

Make sure that converter supports 5.1 audio or its sample rates. If it cant passthrough/supports 5.1 then no sound is possible.

Why do you need a converter? Call Airtel and get your STB replaced to the model with a coaxial out (I did this, I had an optical out too in the prev one). Then connect Coaxial Out from Airtel STB directly to your Philips Coaxial IN.

This is what I have done, only thing, I have connected to an AVR. HDMI goes directly to TV and Coaxial to AVR. So when I want to just watch TV, I dont switch on the AVR. To enjoy 5.1, mute TV and switch on AVR.

Airtel DTH HD box passes Dolby 5.1 through HDMI also so you can directly connect to AVR through HDMI no need for optical

Yes it does, but my AVR does not support Pass Through. And I dont want to have the AVR running when my kid is watching cartoon network. So HDMI straight to TV for good picture quality at all times and coaxial to AVR when I need that amazing sound too.

at least now with airtel hd recorder i can pass through 5.1 channel sound through hdmi, no more coaxial/optical cable required

the way i did this was

1 go to menu
2 scroll down to settings and press ok
3 on user setting click ok
4 then click on audio
5 then go to preferred audio on hdmi and select "dolby digital plus" and save with blue button

Voila enjoi 5.1 surround sound,

Note: make sure u have 5.1 speaker setup.
