Airtel HD DTH vs Videocon HD DTH

I am having a videocon d2h HD connection for 3 months. It does not offer 5.1 audio through HDMI as far as i know. But from march onwards 5.1 sound is there for HD movie channels through coaxial out. There is no seperate audio channel for 5.1 but the default sound channel is giving 5.1 out for star movies and movies now. I have hooked my home theatre to the coaxial out of the hd box and i am getting 5.1 output. and i think videocon d2h sound and video quality is excellent

hi Arif,
I have a d2h HD connection. When i installed this 6 months ago, some of the HD channels had an alternate audio track, which my decoder recognized as dolby digital.
But now i don't see any other alternate audio tracks in HD channels, but while watching the HD channels i noticed that some times dolby digital logo appears in the channel and it disappears after few seconds. Now decoder is not identifying as dolby digital,so i don't know what is the actual format of audio track.
Since you mentioned that you are receiving 5.1 via coaxial, could you check whether it is actual dolby digital audio track?

Anyways i am happy with Videocon d2h HD and their service is prompt.

Thanks,
Dijeesh.

Dear Sukhas,

I am a user of Airtel and I would strongly recommend you to stay away from Airtel. The reason for this is that their after sales service sucks to the point of being non-existent. You give a complaint and you get a complaint number as an SMS. You also get a code that you are supposed to give to the service guy after which he can close the complaint. The next day, you will receive an SMS that the complaint is now resolved and the docket is closed. This happens without anyone attending to the problem. This has happened not once, but thrice and even after repeated escalations, there has been no change.

In frustration,i have changed over to tata sky, which, till now has been a pleasure to deal with. I have no experience with videocon.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Sukhas,

Better stay away from Airtel, whether phone or DTH,i have been complaining for being charged for 2 Set top boxes of DTh,though i have only one installed ,but no relief, still paying for 2 boxes and at last after getting no action for 1 and half year has finally decided to change DTH provider, all the market has great praise for TATASKY

I have exactly the same issue! Despite them giving the code for closure of the complaints, no one attends to them and those complaints are automatically closed without any resolution! This way Airtel is not only cheating their customers but also increasing their productivity by showing more number of resolved tickets without actually doing anything towards open issues which exists for several months now!

Horrible and even escalating to nodal team and despite them promising escalation they keep doing the same and send emails that as per telephonic conversation issue is resolved!

Adding Insult to Injury of all of frustrated ADTV customer. It has won the Product of the year .... award . I believe its mainly due to World Class Customer Service.!!!:mad::mad:...

The Neilson survey is claimed 100% independent & consumer experience driven..... No doubt everything in our country is corrupted..

As advised by lakhs of ADTV ferocious customers.... I would not advice buying ADTV only because of its CC. You will repent since the day you buy since once you buy it, they talk as if they are doing you a favour ... be it technician or CC.

True people don't want to call the CC which is pathetic and try to resolve the issue themselves:ohyeah:

Airtel HD Recorder has RF Out option, How does it work? Does it possible to watch another TV using that option?

Yes, it's possible to watch another TV using RF cable option. However, you can't watch different programs/channels on both TVs. Only one program/channel at a time, can be watched on both TVs.

Does it means that it does not give RF Out, the way it is given in Cable Setup box. In cable Setup box, once I connect through RF Out, in TV mode, I was able to switch between the channel using TV remote. This is not the case in DTH?

Hi..

Airtel DTH HD users can confirm wether HD channels gives output in 5.1 amd wether same gets displayed on AV interms of 5.1 speaker symbol.

my hd box is connected via optic to AV but am not getting the desired effect.

But m too happy with the HD clarity....and dont care a damn for CC as just resolve issues on own...GOOGLE/INTERNET itself is MASS CC ;-)

Cheers....

In my view there is no use of 5.1 channel audio now. Except star movies and movies now neither hd sports channel nor other hd channels are broadcasting hd with 5.1 audio. so go for videocon hd.

secondly after 6months of videocon subscription, you can buy another or stick with same from the monthly subscription amount you saved from economical package of videocon hd

no need to die only for 2 hd movie channels just go for videocon and enjoy the 1080i picture quality within a month videocon will again start 5.1 audio on hd channels once the satellite launches.

I'm having airtel hd dvr and I'm getting DD symbol in my AVR for star movies, movies now, discovery hd,ngc hd, star plus hd

hey could u pls share your settings....i am using HDMI from stb to my plasma and optical from stb to AV...

is it possible optical could be faulty or something..will try this for sure...let me know if anything else..

Cheers..

only showing symbol DD in AVR does it mean actual 5.1, its may be virtual 5.1

for actual 5.1, sound is recorded in DD/DTS/AAC enviornment but they might be broadcasting stereo as 5.1....... please make sure........whether you are getting the actual 5.1 or not.

I'm also having the same setup. I'm having onkyo 3400 HT

One of the main requisites of HD broadcast is 5.1 audio, without which you only get 50% of the HD experience. HD channels will be increased across all DTH operators and platforms in a matter of time. I understand between the two, only Airtel has support for 5.1 over optical not over HDMI. Videocon still as no support for 5.1. For someone who has a home theater setup 5.1 audio is mandatory for any setup. Even though the number of HD channels that support 5.1 are few, I would still go with the operator who has support for 5.1!!!

tumlogo ne meri aankhe khol di! now i will buy airtel hd aisa nahi hai... I cannot miss videocon audio songs pack and new 6 hd channels added wowhhhoo
