Hi guys,
after some research, i have zeroed in for Airtel/Videocon for a new DTH connection....Any suggestions will be welcomed.

Regards,
Sukhas

I use videocon d2h HD. and I am very satisfied with their service and package. Haven't use airtel HD, my understanding is Airtel has one or two more HD channels right now. But there are rumors that videocon is going to add 4-6 HD channels and lots of SD channels next month, after they move to new satellite.

Right now you can go for either of them, i chose D2h since they have the lowest packages.

Which package you are having? you are having HD or HD Recorder?

Dear Sukhas,

I am a user of Airtel and I would strongly recommend you to stay away from Airtel. The reason for this is that their after sales service sucks to the point of being non-existent. You give a complaint and you get a complaint number as an SMS. You also get a code that you are supposed to give to the service guy after which he can close the complaint. The next day, you will receive an SMS that the complaint is now resolved and the docket is closed. This happens without anyone attending to the problem. This has happened not once, but thrice and even after repeated escalations, there has been no change.

In frustration,i have changed over to tata sky, which, till now has been a pleasure to deal with. I have no experience with videocon.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

I have had good experience with Videocon DTH. I had a SD DTH until last month & then upgraded to HD DTH. There service has been really good. Both the customer care & the technicians who have come for installation.

But the problem is the technician's are not well educated on the HD terminology.

So i would give 4.5/5 to Videocon for the customer service.

I have been using airtel for quite a long time, starting from Airtel SD, now with Airtel HD box, clarity is very good, HD channels are awesome, especially Discovery, NG,History.

Movies now and star movies hd clarity is good, but bad part, same movies get repeated for so many times...

not fond of serials, but seeing the clarity of colors hd, people at home started watching few serials in that :(

Hi Sukhas,

I have been using Videocon DTH SD from last 3 years and I switched to Videocon HD 8 months back. Trust me, they do have decent service when needed. Moreever I personally have never had any issues either with the Set top box or with the quality of HD box.

HD is very clear moreover the sound is great too, and not to mention it is the cheapest in the competition of DTH service providers and still maintain the quality at PAR with others.

I have been using D2H SD since last few years and recently opted for Videocon D2H HD and find the picture quality very good. I havent had any major issues with their Customer Support.... Once my set top box was gone bad and they replaced that in a single day...

I asked them that they had 5.1 Dolby audio for HD channels some time back and were also playing 3D movies on their movie channel so these services are on going or stopped as of now .....? As per their reply yes these services were operative but stopped as of now and if they restart it they will inform me... that only means videocon has technology but at present they do not have 5.1 Dolby audio...

But while doing the audio quality testing few weeks back I observed that there are two settings in D2H those are stereo and HomeTheater audio output.

I tried multiple time to switch between those and observed that ...:
1. you could feel good theater(5.1 surround sound) effect for channels like HBO, star movies etc with the HomeTheater audio output setting
2. You may not feel that for rest of movie channels mostly hindi with the same HomeTheater audio

but there is a certain difference between these two settings and hometheater setting is good. Although it may not be 5.1 dolby exactly but looks to be having some sort of audio encoding or atleast they are transmitting the Audio as it is which comes from original satellite signal..

I was watching Fast Furious series and Die Anather Day on those two channels and I could hear good theater effect sounds from my Yamaha-471.

videocon DTH HD owners, can anyone pls confirm it can output 5.1 dolby surround through HDMI or not ?

AFAIK...Videocon D2H has officially stopped transmitting 5.1 sound on all HD channels since the start of this month.
You can also confirm the same from their official facebook page.

if this is the case then whts the use of paying for HD channels, HD should have 5.1 Dolby surround, with this downside Videocon DHT is useless in a way

Guys even I'm looking for a new DTH connection for my newly purchased Samsung LED TV 46"
Unable to decide. Can someone suggest a good DTH service provider?

The reason that Videocon might have discontinued broadcasting 5.1 Dolby surround is because not many in india would have complete HT Setup. Even if you TV is capable of decoding the Dolby/DTS, you can her hear only 2.0 in your TV. So they might have thought that stereo makes sense.

I own Videocon HD DTH. Picture clarity is very good..Input signal on my TV says 1080p. Not sure abt that since the HD broadcast are only 1080i.

Regards,

I had a simillar experience with videocon.

I cancelled my videocon d2h HD subscription yesterday. Reason(s): Got "No signal" error frequently. The service engineer's reason was faulty software / HDMI port. However, got the same error even when a new box was replaced. The remote control stopped working intermittently while it was used. The box most of the times needs to be switched off and on to resume services. This was my experience!

thats not a reason to give inferior quality to customer, HD channel with 5.1 is a must for every DTH HD, if they dont give its not doing justice to the price we pay to them

I think Airtel is a better option as I'm not enjoying any of the HD channels on Videcon D2H HD. Movies Now has slightly better sound quality but overall taking Videocon was a big mistake. I want to get rid of my 2 HD set top boxes and switch to either Airtel or Tata Sky which offers 5.1 Dolby Digital. Like some one said there is no use of HD channel if it is not 5.1 I totally agree.

Also I found the sound of SD channels on my previous local cable 7-Star much better especially channels like HBO and VH1.

Videocon has a lot of catching up to do so do not get tempted by their 19 new HD channels offers. Yet another trap!

Have 2 connections from Airtel DTH. Quality is good. But the customer service is pathetic to say the least. Please stay away from airtel dth till they sort out customer service issues. They took 1 week realize that a payment has been made for an additional connection. No escalation mechanism, no accountability. Horrible experience to even get a new connection.
AVOID.

I am having a videocon d2h HD connection for 3 months. It does not offer 5.1 audio through HDMI as far as i know. But from march onwards 5.1 sound is there for HD movie channels through coaxial out. There is no seperate audio channel for 5.1 but the default sound channel is giving 5.1 out for star movies and movies now. I have hooked my home theatre to the coaxial out of the hd box and i am getting 5.1 output. and i think videocon d2h sound and video quality is excellent

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
