Hi,
I have Airetl HD set top box which is Dolby ready, i want to watch HD channels in Dolby surround sound through Onkyo 3500, which i guess is not possible using single HDMI cable. Will i get Dolby using coaxial cable on HD channels?
Airtel users please share your experience of this workaround.
Thanks in advance.

As of now, Airtel DTH provides 5.1 Dolby Sound on selected HD channels via Optical cable only.
You can visit few existing threads in DTH section for more details on this.

+1 to optical, I have similar setup with Airtel HD STB + Denon AVR, only optical audio out (SPDIF) provide the 5.1 audio.
Is there a Coaxial output on STB, i guess no. Mine only has HDMI, OPT & RCA.

thanks

My airtel set top box Coaxial out and AVR has Coaxial in so will try that. Do the free HD channels have Dolby?

In Airtel, All HD channels have 5.1 sound except Zee TV HD, Zee Cinema HD, Sony Six HD and TEN HD; no matter if the channels come free or not ;-)

Except for movie and some English entertainment channels (where you get true DD+ 5.1), all other 5.1 audio is simulated. Even with some movies on Star Movies HD, my original DVDs and BDs, yield better surround sound. In fact, sometimes I have to put midnight mode ON to cut off excess surround sound while playing originals, something I never have to do with Tatasky HD.

Thanks for the info.
