Hi guys, i am planning to buy Airtel HD STB, my question is what all out audio outputs the STB is having? co axial or optical? i read some where new HD STBs are having only optical ? what would be cost of optical cable?

It has optical out. Decent cable would cost you 300-400.
i guess the cable we need to buy separately? or is there a option to ask co axial output STB?

yes you need to buy cable separately. i dnt think coaxial option is there, but u shd check.

Cnt say. I only hv a 2.0 setup.
so how is ur set up? hdmi to tv and optical to ur audio sys?
i have airtel HD-DVR. it has only optical out. optical cable is not provided by the company (only HDMI cable) so you will have to buy. good ones should cost about 400. i have connected the STB HDMI out to TV, optical out to my AVR. Sound is configured to be output from the optical, tough you do get sound and picture from the HDMI to TV as well. I get 5.1 ch DD for HD channels from the STB. Picture and sound are very good.

It depends on the make of STB. Airtel HD STBs are from different companies such as HomeCast, KeonMedia, Huawei etc.
I have HD-DVR and it has only Optical out, No Coaxial !

Why not simply ask customer care!
One basic suggestion before considering optical /coaxial, dont buy Airtel if you have other options such as Tata sky.
Saying this because I have Airtel, and you cant simply have a peaceful life when you have to deal with their CC.
On a separate note, they mostly have optical out, but there is no standarad there either. So buy cables only after you have received the box and seen the output connections yourself. Also, make sure to replace the HDMI cable which comes free with box with a decent one.

i would have gone for tata sky...but i am looking for malaylam channels too..which TS sucks.....Yes it is a risk i am taking......but since i dont have any other options .....
Initially I had a lot of problem with Airtel CC. But since some time I have not faced any serious problem so never had to contact them.! The picture and sound I guess will be same in all stbs- Airtel or TS, cos almost everyone uses similar spec STBs from Taiwan/china. Only aesthetically different and all HD channels are 1080i with DD 5.1 through opt/coax.
