ALERT! - Iaudio IN Chennai THIS weekend

BTW, Rajiv, I,ve received my Class D power amp. All that is missing is a transformer. Checked out Richie street today but couldn't find any. If I can get some lead, will pick it up on saturday and we can demo it on sunday along with other setup (If it is OK with U)

Hi Capt,

Shah Electronics(MAXINE) should have transformers.

There is another shop(ground floor) in one of the complexes, second or third building after Shah, on the same side of the street as Shah, which also sells good quality transformers.

What are the specs, for the transformer?

If you can't find one in Ritchie St. to meet your specs, there is a company in Josier St near Childs Trust Hospital that will wind one for you to your specs.

Regards
Rajiv

iaudio and Chennai Vasis: Saturday is here. Let the auditions begin. Waiting for your detailed listening experience. Please do share some pics.

I've lugged my camera and laptop with me. But I think most of members are free only on Sunday. Actually not yet breakfast. Will call Bala and start off with arrangements. As Thad said it would be great if we could all gather somewhere. But that would be too much trouble for one members residence!

I've checked there & the adjacent one that you mentioned 'Kasturi Electronics'. Both sell industrial capacitors. I've come to know of one SV Tronics in Kotturpuram who reportedly supply audiophile grade torodials.

What are the specs, for the transformer?

I'm quoting below from their brochure available on the website.
CDA-254 Amplifier
All housekeeping power supplies are built-in so only a dual voltage +/- 45 to 60 volt power supply is required (+ /- 50V at about 2.5 to 5 amps is optimal).
The amp has RCA jacks for input of up to 600 Ohm and 3V, and terminal blocks for power supply and speaker connections.

Low Profile DC Power Supply
This Low Profile DC Power supply operates up to +/- 48 volts.
Large filter capacitance of 20,000 (10,000 microfarad per side)

Transformer
You will need a transformer with either center tap or dual secondary's. You can calculate the voltage the power supply will put out by multiplying the transformer secondary's by 1.41... example: if your transformer has 30 volt secondary's, multiply 30 X 1.41 = 42.3 volts.

If you can't find one in Ritchie St. to meet your specs, there is a company in Josier St near Childs Trust Hospital that will wind one for you to your specs.

Thanks for the info. Will check up that option as well.

Why dont you get Trannies from Miracle? They seem to have a good reputation. :)

I know, even George recommended them. Their website doesn't work.

I just googled them & found out their contact details & spoke to them.

They asked me to send a mail listing out my requirement. Red Tape:mad:

iaudio, Rajiv - you are of course welcome to my place on Sunday.

This is my present system:

HTPC -> DDDac -> Lyrita 2A3 Valve amplifier -> Lyrita Harmony One speakers.

I still do have my EPOS M12.2 but they are packed and left on the rafters. :)

The Harmony Ones have been with me for just under a week now and even in that time I have not really had too much chance to spend time with them. So they are not fully broken in. Well, that is the disclaimer over and done with :)

Anybody else interested are also welcome. The only thing is that the listening room is just 12X14 or so. So you might have to adjust somewhat.

Yes, the DAC I mentioned above is the Doede Douma DAC Kit modified and fitted with a valve regulated power supply and with a tube stage output by Viren. The DAC has an USB input as well as an SPDIF one. Currently I am exploring only the USB option. As time goes on, I hope to experiment with the other input as well and see if it makes too much of a difference.

iaudio you better have written copious notes on all the systems you've heard! will look for your views on monday or tuesday when you have time to post! pics too!

regards

hi Iaudio,

Monday morning if you are free around 0800 a.m. you may drop in to listen to my set-up. I stay close to Adyar, if it is ok, pl. let me know.

cheers

iAudio Brings Rain To Chennai!

Well, ok, it has rained in the night over the past couple of days, but for daytime rain and a lowering of the temperature just a little, we have to thank iaudio :)

I hope you had a great day. It happened that I was out and about anyway. I do hope you could maybe make it to a Chennai Meetup.

He he! Thad, You are welcome! We were saying the same thing today, been raining from the time I got here and so the temp has become quite bearable.

Hi,

I really enjoyed myself, yesterday after a pretty stressed out week.It was nice meeting up with the guys.

Looking forward to some tube rolling with Sasi's Cayin amp either this weekend or the next .

The tripath amp is amazing value for Rs.4000/-.The Cayin amp is very good.

Playing the Sheffield drum track on 99-100db @1 watt horn speakers with a 30 watt tube amp was an ear opener for me.In fact someone commented that my neighbours might start complaining. The bass control of the Cayin was superb. The Altecs really sang with the extra power on tap.

The PP Cayin and the SET present music in their own unique ways.On electronic music the PP amp sounded a little better, bass also had more weight. On acoustic, strings, vocal music my preference is for the SET.

Regards
Rajiv
