The Amethyst is our NOS (Non over sampling) DAC / Headphone amplifier combo. It replaces our renowned Aurix headphone amplifier, but with the trickled down technology from our top of the line DACs like Adagio and Pavane, it is better than ever.

The Amethyst uses 2 of Metrum Acoustics' proprietary Transient “DAC TWO” chips to provide extraordinary digital to analogue conversion capability at this affordable price point. The headphone amplifier section is another gem in the same box. The headphone amplifier contains analogue volume control that is directly coupled to the output section of the D/A board, offering smooth and accurate volume changes without any channel balancing issue even at low volume.

Despite being an affordable DAC the Amethyst features bleeding edge technology such as our forward correction technology due to which a real 24-bit performance is achieved. This adds a new dimension to R2R ladder implementation in digital to analogue conversion.

The Transient R2R ladder DAC TWO module is capable of handling extremely high sample rates however we have limited it to current industry standard of 384khz on USB input. Using 2 DAC TWO chips provide high channel separation of 110db resulting in accurate imaging of the instruments.

The headphone section can drive any headphones available in the market starting from 16 ohms.

The Amethyst has a very well implemented A-sync USB input, 2 coaxial inputs and 1 optical input to cover the entire range of inputs one might need.

The Amethyst can be part of any HIFI system regardless of the price point. This gives some of the more expensive D/A converter out there a run for their money.
Entry level it may be, but it sounds nothing like an entry level DAC. You have to hear it to believe it.
