Any fans of Fela Kuti here?
First heard of Fela Kuti from this movie I watched when it came out. Beautiful movie.Any fans of Fela Kuti here?
Yup, big fan! Don't own any of the box sets by Knitting Factory but I've been picking up the individual releases when I see them. Eagerly waiting for Opposite People from boxset 6 to get an individual release since that's a top 5 Fela record imo.Any fans of Fela Kuti here?
Such an infectious groove, especially once it reaches the 12:50 mark. Here's a great live version featuring his youngest son Seun Kuti:Here's Opposite People for those who are new to Fela
Couldn't agree more. For those curious to know more about that side of Fela, I highly recommend this documentary: Music Is The WeaponHis life is even more interesting - his political activism, including self nomination for President of Nigeria, his religion -Yoruba, his commune - 12 wives that he divorced as he felt marriage encourages selfishness and jealousy, his music - Afrobeat, combination of Fuji music, funk, jazz, highlife, salsa, calypso, and traditional Yoruba music.
An almost 'all white' band performing almost 'all black' music Great example of music bringing diverse cultures together!Such an infectious groove, especially once it reaches the 12:50 mark. Here's a great live version featuring his youngest son Seun Kuti:
Wow , I have the Coltrane Atlantic Years box set, this one looks equally attractive. Congrats and (sigh!!)Really need this box set as well as the other box collecting his albums on Contemporary. His Atlantic Years box set is one of my prized possessions.
