All That Jazz ...

What a fantastic cover!
I’m tempted to get this based on album art alone :)

At first glance, I assumed this was some random compilation of golden oldies. I couldn’t have been more wrong!
Timeless is (was?) a Dutch label and this double LP showcases an amazing roster of musicians. To name check a few: Pharoah Sanders, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Cedar Walton, Art Blakey, Bobby Hutcherson, Jaco Pastorius, Terumasa Hino, Kazumi Watanabe.
One can hear this album on Apple Music and I would highly recommend some of the individual records, as well. Tom Grant’s ‘Mystified’ and Cedar Walton’s ‘Eastern Rebellion’ would be a great place to start.

There's this little horn riff stuck in my head for days. It's like the hook of all hooks if you were alive in the '70's. Whole song--a little funk, a little R&B, but kinda jazz.

Maybe it's a "you had to be there" sort of thing, but it just evokes so much of the '70's and pieces of it could be from so many of those old TV show themes from then. Anyway, the band is decidedly not a jazz band but issued this "compilation" album. I haven't even heard it all, yet, to my knowledge and just found the whole thing on YT.

The song in particular is Duji, which I somehow (funk-hopping) tripped on a really, really poor mp3 of at the wayback. Yet, sitting at the keyboard, I found myself leaving the thing on loop a couple times. Today, I wake up and it's in my head before I opened my eyes :)

An only slightly better quality direct link (give or take 2 sec) is:

Hope it makes your body move...
