All the speakers I made - suri

the W.O.E. have been doing duty for about a week now - there are some things better than the W.O.S. - and some problem area -

what exactly has changed suri in the new WOEs? do post a recap :) next you can make headphones and call em CUP of WOE :D ie with these W.O.E WOE to all other headphones out there beware!

your speakers do look fantastic indeed superb finish. can you post a closer up shot of the wood edged square opening below the driver? assuming that's your port?

regards

hi stevieboy - will post a recap once iaudio and rallynut drop by - at least, there might be a consensus - instead of an opinion of a neurotic old man!

here are two pictures of the port - the port also is felt lined -

Hi Suri

The speakers look very nice. If i ever come to your part of the world, will definitely drop in. I felt a carpet or rug in the centre would help. Any reason why the speakers are on wheels and not on spikes?
Was also curious to know how the speaker sounds with and without the black wooden strip border?

Prem,
I think speakers tip the scales over a 100 kilos, hence the wheels. Else no chance of moving them to adjust the position.

Bravo Suri!! The witches look fabulous and am sure they will sound good too. Will plan a trip to Kannur with the other other Bangalore boys. Stevieboy, Kaushik, others what say?

Hi Iaudio

If thats the case maybe Suri should try a separate stand with wheels and the speakers placed with spikes on the stands. I may be wrong but i feel it will sound better.

Hey Suri,

They look gorgeous !
I concur with Prem. Once you get your position right, remove the wheels and couple them to the floor with some stout spikes.

Just wondering, what electronics are those ? The amp and cd player ?

Hi Prem - square_wave -

yes, i must do that - i am trying to design a lifting mechanism (like a car has - the car jack) for the speakers - so that i can place spikes- and remove them when i need to change position - i do change position of the speakers very often to suit the type of music being played -

the electronics - CD 6002 (marantz) and amp (integrated-stereo) is PM 17 (marantz)

Wilson audio has a jack lift mechanism they use - you might get some ideas looking at that.

Suri, speakers look very nice, well done

Suri, Am sure there must've been something wrong !! I refuse to accept that all the hard work and countless hours of interaction with Madisound just went into the dust :p!

Am sure there is a logical explanation to what you experienced today !! So I say do give it some time, let the Xover settle down, let the whole thing settle down a bit ! Listen to it later and see if you still feel this way !

I strongly recommend against any immediate action ;) !! change the speaker cables, change the IC's,Try all other things before you arrive at something, something substantial to make any physical changes or otherwise !!

Regards.

??? what happened suri? the sound is not to your liking? which aspect of it?

regards

edit: you have my wholehearted telepathic sympathetic support i know you will sort this out given some time!

jack and suri went up the wall
trying to figure out the crossover
jack went down and suri held his crown
then he triumphantly yelled eureka! i've got the answer!

terrible poetry i know but am sure you'll whip the witch into shape after some more trials :)

OMG!!!!!!!!WTF:eek:??!!!!

i find that very hard to believe, esp after my last aural experience with them, all the while keeping in mind that they are 'new'(silver binding posts,x over, etc)!!!what exactly brings u to this, surely,a bewildering, conclusion??????do i need my ears/brain checked or what:p??

cmon suri,give them some time...
if u want some noise files, freq sweeps, just a drive away ;).cheers

no-
a spade must be called a spade -

these sound like a tinpot attempt at DIY loudspeaker -

i now know what not to do -

trust some idiot (at madisound) just because i am ignorant -

and also not to trust myself too much (pretensions of being a loudspeaker designer!)

i know something else too - better to make all efforts to learn about ALL aspects of loudspeaker - before proving oneself a fool:mad:

tomorrow - when i can think clearly - - i will write about what i can hear and what i find distasteful

and the irony - wife thinks they look very good - and thinks she would not mind having them on public display!

hi stevieboy, soundsgreat, cranky,rallynut,

if i could point my finger at one issue - it is sibilance --

and with female voice - there seems to be excessive energy - especially when female sings with piano - in a sequence with high notes (not a musician - so - when the piano goes 'plingk-plingk-plingk') - a certain irritating honkiness-

what do i do:eek::confused:

apart from celebrating Vishu?:)

Suri, please give the speakers some more time.
What about the WOS? Did their sound change/improve considerably with burn in?
Oh I forgot, the driver is the same right!

well maybe females find you irresistibly attractive and are energetically trying to get out of the enclosure! ;)

though why not enjoy vishu chill let the speakers burn in for a while and see how it goes things just might even out!

regards

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
