will Marant cd player play scratched CDs as well ? I know that a 2K player will play almost all scratched disks - not sure of Marantz - before shelling out that money, I want to be sure of it - Owerns - can you please clarify ?

Literally any player can play scratched disks. The issue is how well can the player understand the data and play music properly. This involves re-reading of data a few times and extrapolating the information to arrive at the best read. When you are playing music, this has to be done in real time. Again the quality of output will depend on the depth of the scratch. If the scratch is very deep, no player on earth can help you. If the scratch is superficial, any player can handle that. You may hear some noise if your ears are very sharp. That is all.

Mine plays some scratched disks, on other scratched discs, it gives loud ticking noises, sometimes gets stuck like a record player over a 2 second passage continuously. Then it feels like If you are not at home to press the skip button on remote the thing will probably overheat and burn itself down bythe time you reach home.

The Oppo BD-80 player handles bad media best - you will hear pin drop silence in those bad sections for a second or two then it progresses gracefully onwards as if nothing happened.

NAD 542 was certainly had a reputation as a problematic CDP - the Marantz in comparison was a cool dude. I am not sure to what extent the problems were fixed in 545. Does it read CD-RW or CDRs burnt on a PC?

yes it does read burnt cds without any issue.
Yes you rightly said I had 542 for few week, it was faulty but then Lakozy replaced it with 545 which is excellent so far.

Congrats on your purchase. Great price.
For that price its better to buy without bill in India rather than carrying stuff from abroad. In both cases you don't get warranty which may be just fine.

My current equipments include:

Denon 1610
QAcoustics 2020 (f,left, centre)

For a dedicated 2.1 ch setup, first I plan to start with dedicated CD player.

Is Marantz cd 6003 a good choice ? how much does it cost in Chennai ? I heard from one dealer as 26.5K - Is it the price ? or if there is any better price offered, please give me the pointers.

What branded interconnect I should use for a good setup and the cost ? Is it required to invest in good branded interconnect ?

Also, one quesiton I had is if there is a dedicated CDP, is it still required to get a stereo amp - The reason being, the analog out from CDP will be connected to Denon AVR which is just going to do the amplification - In such a case , I feel there isn't a need a get a separate stereo amp. Is my understanding right ?

Does cd 6003 play flac files directly from USB ? How about hte improvment in mp3 in marantz cdp 6003 ?

I'm also deciding to get either the Marantz 5004 or 6003 CD player. I can see the 5004 is available in Marantz website but the 6003 is no more visible. is it that they discontinued the 6003? what was the deciding factor for you to select the 6003 over 5004? can you enlighten me kindly?
