Hi All,

My current equipments include:

Denon 1610
QAcoustics 2020 (f,left, centre)

For a dedicated 2.1 ch setup, first I plan to start with dedicated CD player.

Is Marantz cd 6003 a good choice ? how much does it cost in Chennai ? I heard from one dealer as 26.5K - Is it the price ? or if there is any better price offered, please give me the pointers.

What branded interconnect I should use for a good setup and the cost ? Is it required to invest in good branded interconnect ?

Also, one quesiton I had is if there is a dedicated CDP, is it still required to get a stereo amp - The reason being, the analog out from CDP will be connected to Denon AVR which is just going to do the amplification - In such a case , I feel there isn't a need a get a separate stereo amp. Is my understanding right ?

Does cd 6003 play flac files directly from USB ? How about hte improvment in mp3 in marantz cdp 6003 ?

owerns of cdp6003 , your help is appreciated

The 6003 should be around 18k. search this forum for Marantz authorized distributor contact in Chennai and you wil find some dealer names that will provide the gear at decent price, not the outrageous 26K!!

6003 is a very good budget buy. It wont play flac from USB though. they have used the amplifier chassis for the CDP making it heavier and better damped from vibrations with a heavier base that also protect from EMI radiating out.

Its a very good piece of equipment. Just be sure what your want to play - CDs or Digital collection like FLACs. For CDs go ahead, but in case you have most of your collection as digital then go for a media player.

I got the cd6002 for 18K. The 6003 was 21k @launch I believe.

Unconfirmed sources ( the local chaiwaala :D) have told me it has now come down to 18K.

Ask around before you buy. Try Bass Treble in Coimbatore to know the price around South India - he will ship to Chennai as well.

Somewhere else? Damn! I musta had a busy weekend so far! Going now ... :D

The CD6003 costs S$ 400 (14400) or maybe slightly lesser depending on your negotiating skills, in alpha audio singapore. If you can arrange it from there its your cheapest option. I bought it from Madhura Chennai 09884806658 for Rs.23K with bill a couple of months back. IMO it makes sense to buy it with bill even if its - 500 to 1000 in the grey market.

CD5004 was for 18k in Mumbai(3month back)

There should not be much difference between CS4392 and CS4398 DAC chips so the 5004 at Rs. 5000/- less is a good deal.

The chassis and other features is equally good like the 6003.

Hi all,

I am using Marantz CD 5003 for the past 3 months, the SQ is very superb. It digs at all the details from the CD, and even with MP3 it plays very well. With its remote it is a breeze to operate both the CD and the Amp. All it needs is a good pair of interconnects, I use Chord Crimson plus with good results.

I paid Rs.9500/- at Singapore for it.

Just my Rs.2/-

Hello Murali_n,

Thanks for the reply. Only reason for me to swing towards 6003 is it's USB support - playing MP3 from USB..

Otherwise as you have mentioned 5003/4 all remains same.

Btw, even 5003 in India costs very high i.e. atleast 15K :-(

Its easy to burn a Data CD with 5 to 6 hours of mp3 music and play it on a non-usb player like the 6002 and 5004. Takes 30 mins. Is the facility to play USB stick worth Rs 5000/-? How many mp3 songs and CDs will you burn to make that 5000 worthwhile?

very good point ofcourse!!!! If so, what's the main difference between 5003 and 5004 -...

Let me find out the price with BassTreble on 5003 , 5004 as well then.

Its not always.Like my D2X has PCM 1796 & ST/X has PCM 1792,but later sounds better than 1st eventhough the DAC no.s are close.

Got the quote as 17.5K for cd5004

Chord Crimson Plus IC - where is it available in Chennai ? or please recommend a good IC for this CDP to AVR connection. - Audioquest IC is ok ?

planning to buy this weekend. hope Marantz wouldn't disappoint.

Chord Chrimson (CC) I too have. For a change I heard in my gear exactly what a review posted on a UK site said - lower midrange bloat. I was ok with that as my speakers sound "cold" by nature. Then I began to believe that there was not much difference between the low cost Crimson and the 10K worth Nordost Blue Heavens - until I plugged the BH back in my system in my new house. There are other deficiencies in the CC sound that escape my memory and poor audiophile vocabulary right now. Although I believe there are many cables out (that will sound) there much better than the BH (in my gear i.e) .. I only have to discover it at reasonable cost.

I use the CC for TV to Amplifier now.
