Hello All,
Some very useful information available in this section which I have been reading over the past few weeks.
I am in the process of setting up a budget projector setup at home. Havent been used to a TV for a long time (10 yrs+), so all watching is usually done on a PC. Now its time to get a proper screen for this setup.
Have tried using a friend's Qumi Q5 LCD portable projector, and liked the 50-60 inch it projected on my wall.
* The projector will be an Acer 5380 720p ordered from the USA.
* Projector will mostly be used for movies and TV shows. 480p/720p content.
* Placed in the living room of my smallish flat, no dedicated space available.
* Content will be streamed to the projector with a Chromecast from the media server, so only power needed.
* Not an audiophile, so the level speakers I have will do for now. Speakers are the Microlabs/Circle Arko bookshelves: http://www.hifivision.com/reviews/22413-cirle-arko-microlabs-solo-6c-100rms-active-speakers.html
* The only decent space I have to use as a screen is around 80 inch wide, basically the entrance alcove of a rectangular living room, so a 72 inch screen will be needed. Unfortunately walls here are yellow, making some sort of screen a must. Projector will be placed around 10 ft from the wall, with viewing area being sofas around 14-16 feet away.
* Projector will be used mostly after work, late evenings on weekends, with the PC monitor used for daylight use. However, may want to use it during daytime occasionally too.
Questions:
* Since the room is a living room, there is ambient light, even with dark curtains, plus the walls are light yellow with white ceiling + light floor tiles, so expect lots of reflected light too. In this case, it appears that a gray screen would be better than a white one. Any suggestions on where to get one on a budget? Also, any disagreement on grey screen?
* Ceiling mount wont work since its a rented place and the alcove is to the side of the room, so planning floor mount. There is also a beam in the way on the ceiling, causing more issues.
Right now, I am thinking an upside-down ceiling mount with a heavy base welded to it that can be placed on the floor.
Anyone used something like this? How to calculate height of projector from floor based on seating height??
Heres a link to a picture of the wall: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2n3jgznpxeuyd7c/2014-06-12 21.56.33.jpg
Limited space unfortunately.
What did I miss? Look forward to suggestions and screen contacts.
