Hive mind, I'm looking for good amplifier pairing with my Marin Logan Motion 60XT speakers. Currently powered by Audiolab 6000a, with eversolo DMP A6 streamer. Was using Cambridge Dac Magic but swapped it out as the highs are too bright. Highs are still a bit bright, so fatiguing for long listens. Any suggestions for a amp to replace the 6000a? Any other suggestions on getting damping the treble? Budget is sub 1.5L ideally. Thanks!

I once had a mind-blowing listen to the 60XTi. It was paired with an Emotiva stereo amp, most likely the BasX.

It is very surprising that the treble is what is problematic in your case, as the ML tweeters are usually pretty smooth!

Interesting. They are butter with some genres, but bright with others, like electronic music. I need an amp change anyway, so wanted some inputs. This is helpful. Let me try to audition.

Marantz PM 8006 will smoothen things out. It's well built. Sound stage is excellent. Warm sound with rolled up top end. But nothing muddy about it. Midrange clarity is also very good.

Also,.Can be used as a pre/power (allowing you to connect tube pre amp down the road to futher sweeten the sound)

However, if you plan tl the take the tube route (your budget allows for it), a new world of possibility will open for you.

What is the cable in use ? Try using a warmer interconnect first and then switch to a warmer amp.

Don't know enough about them. Any recos? Also, would the power be sufficient? Seen power output of tubes being much less. Am I missing a trick?

You speakers have a sensitivity of 94db if I am not mistaken. The speaker's impedance is 4 ohm, however the spec sheet reveal that the ohm fluctuations aren't over the top.

With this rating, any tube amplifier (push pull class AB) having a modest 20 watts or more, or a SET Tube amplifier with 7 watts or more will drive the Logan's like it's no body's business. Having said these, will leave the ultimate verdict to much more experienced forum members who specialises in this.

With Tube amps, you get midrange clarity to die for and a life like sound in general. Although through the course of your journey you will discover different kinds of tube, same kind of tubes from different brands all sounds different, input tubes effect sound etc etc.

Don't want to give over information and ruin your otherwise painfully beautiful journey with tubes, if you go that route.

Within your budget, I will suggest Williston R8, since it's available in India easily. Cayin also make tubes amp, in fact makes a lot of them. They are difficult to buy and are costly.

Wileston R8 accept two kind of Tubes KT 88 (known own for its punch, base and rhythm) and EL 34 (known for its creamy midrange). It also accepts 6550, 6cA7 power tubes and they all same different sound signatures.

You can play around with these tubes and get the sound you want. Tube rolling is an addictive hobby but it's worth it.

Tubes in the amp lasts for 2000 hours or so. If maintained even more, but this is something you may keep in mind. Tubes have to be changed and over the years, cost will increase. Exotic tubes cost more than the amplifier itself in many cases.

Wilsenton R8 with good tubes will rival any Solid State amp double the price, IMO.

I personally use a Cayin A-88T MK2, specced similar to R8 but better build, higher price and slightly better performance, IMO.

For SET Tube Amps, they are very pricey but sound is surreal. If you want to acquire one at a reasonable price, our forum members like @yogibear etc make them with highest standards and those will blow you mind. The whole concept of this wattage obsession will be put to rest once and for all.

How about EL84 SE, Pure Class A, no feedback, SE, making 9 watts per channel, compatible with loads from 4 to 10 ohms ? Tonality, frequency bandwidth, clean sound, power, all given. That’s the latest prototype…

BTW, nothing is better than trying how a particular amp mates to a particular speaker…. (Impedance plot is the real deciding factor).

The Marantz PM7000N offers big, spacious and insightful sound, class-leading clarity and a solid streaming platform in a award winning package.
