An ode to cassette tapes

I also have kept most of my cassettes which I procured during 80’s. Presently, as my Nak Deck is inoperative for want of belt change, these cassettes are just lying in the drawer. Once the Nak comes back to life or, I get a new deck, I’ll start enjoying them again.

Do you listen to them sometimes?
There are many who still listen to cassettes. Maintaining a huge collection of cassettes is cheaper to start with. I have been told that you get that analogue feel when listening to cassettes. I had never heard cassettes before. But when I heard them for the first time, I liked them and on advice of some senior member of this forum, I have procured Nakamichi Deck and a lot of 3000 cassettes. Since I am new into vinyls also (Procuring the records first), due to steep cost of vinyl records, I can maintain small collection of vinyls. Combined stock of cassettes and vinyl records will enable me to have a good degree of source material as well as be light on budget.

Yes, I listen to them regularly. In fact I recently purchased a collection of around 200 mix tapes recorded in the 80s, however I don't know what kind of condition the tapes are in or if the person has recorded them properly. I'll find out once it arrives let's hope for the best. Also bought some blank metal cassettes to record on. I also still have all my old cds which I purchased in the 80s and 90's.

3000 cassettes is massive
How do you store so many cassettes?

They are still in paper cartoon boxes (as received). I was planning to have a discussion with any LP collector or cassette collector to figure out how to store them and use.
We are into hospital business and shortly opening 2 hospitals at Patna and Ranchi. So for now the collection will be divided between these 2 locations.
The way one collector in Chennai stores them is in wooden boxes in lots of 200 in each box with adequate high density industrial foam compartments.
This is for the first time in my life that I have procured physical media for listening.
Any ideas from you on how to deal with such big volume of cassettes so that we can listen to them on rotation.

I listen mostly to cassettes. I have recorded a lot of LPs into cassettes. The reproduction is 100% as my Nakamichi BX300 is just outstanding. Cassettes are much more convenient and a lot of fun too.

Can we still get the blank cassettes on which recording can be done? Information of any reliable source for procurement will be helpful.

To buy blank cassettes in India, just check olx and Facebook classifieds regularly and you will find ads for blank cassettes every two months or so. You can also buy them from ebay or yahoo auctions Or discogs. However when buying from abroad always factor in shipping fees and customs duty prior to purchase.
