When i turned on my PC today , i heard a tuck sound from my woofer and i saw a bright spark on my surge protector. I immediately turned everything off. Checked the surge protector, everything looked alright, no black/burnt marks seen. I then plugged everything back in , booted up my pc and everything seemed to work alright but my speakers ! I cannot power them now, i dont see the green light that i used to when the speakers were plugged in the power outlet. Here are some questions that i need answers for.

1. I have the logitech z313 speakers, got them as a replacement for my x210 which i bought abt 2 yrs back, so there isnt any warranty left.
2. Is it the woofer who is the culprit.? How do i know if the whole set has gone bad or just the woofer.? The woofer has the cable that goes to the power outlet so i think only the woofer might have got fried. ? FYI : I dont see any black/burnt marks whatsover. And there isnt any fuse that i could see anywhere on the speakers.
3. If the speakers are alright, can i connect them to a different woofer ? If yes, which one ?
4. I noticed, my surge protector now says 'Ground Open' instead of 'All Ok' as before. Is this something to be worried ?

Please let me know what i should do. I am in no mood to spend again on new speakers.

Thanks.

Plug the speakers into a wall outlet, minus the surge protector, and see if they work. Check the male plug which powers the speakers. Replace the surge protector before it does even more damage. Buy a decent extension board with a fuse. Be aware that most surge protector provide little or no surge protection.

* Check that there is nothing wrong in the distribution board, or in the power socket before trying anything. If you are not sure, then switch of everything. Call an electrician in the morning to check the powerline before attempting to connect any equipment.

first try plugging them to the wall outlet directly.. if no go..

then try a diffrent power cord for that goes to the sub.. if still no go..

then check the fuse behind the sub.. it will be a 5 -7 amp fuse if thats blown it might be just a 2-3 rupee fix.. get a new fuse. plonk it and you are good.

if that does not work.. logi gives 2 years of warranty... if out of warranty most probably the power point on thr board inside the sub could have gone bad can be fixed dont worry.

first try to isolate the issue.... and get a good belkin surge protector.. the cheap chinese makes do more of damage than good.

Ok..so I opened it up. There wasn't any fuse. Power cord is soldered on the board. The PCB looks alright.

One of the transitor has got blown. See the image. I would like to know if this can be fixed. Any chance of getting only the speakers working back.?
