Hi,

I have a question :

Can i connect my CDP to my AVR, my Integrated to my AVR and my subwoofer to my AVR ( line level ) and stereo music ? This will mean that i will have to use my Integrated amp.. purely as a power amp.. am i correct ?

I can then control the crossover for the subwoofer thru the AVR for stereo music ( 2.1 )

Note : Presently my CDP is connected to the Integrated which is connected to the 2 fronts.

Note : The same AVR already has a DVDP and 5.1 ch setup connected to it .. only the fronts are driven by pre outs to Integrated amp.

Welcome your thoughts on this.

I think there is another similar thread started by Zweischen but i dont want to inturde on his thread so started this one..

The set up i have is mentioned in my signature.

Maybe i could make better use of my AVR this way ( like a preamp )

Just for using the AVR's active crossover you are weakening the whole chain -- not a good idea IMHO.

How about this alternative (disclaimer -- I haven't tried it myself): Leave CDP > NAD > Speakers as is.

For using AVR's crossover, use this chain: NAD pre-out > AVR > Sub-out > Subwoofer.

This way your AVR's preamp only affects subwoofer's sound and not the mains'. Only issue is your mains will run full range so you might have to tweak crossover frequencies in your AVR and sub for a good blend. Of course you will have to use an additional pair of interconnects.

sound1,

thanks.. you mean from NAD pre out TO ( what input connections of the AVR ?? audio in ? ) TO sub out ( line level or LFE ) ( currently my LFE is being used for movies with the DVD.. that leaves the line level sub outputs from the AVR free.

I meant NAD preout (L/R) >>> AVR "6/8 CHANNEL INPUT (FL/FR)".
Then from AVR "PREOUT (SUBWOOFER)" >>> subwoofer (line in).

Please see the attached pic.

will the AVR then - not amplify and feed sounds to the center and rears ? The idea is to get the AVR to work the subwoofer only.

any inputs ?

This is your equipment list (from your signature). I have removed the cable list.
Audio
Marantz SACDP 7001, NAD C356BEE, Paradigm Titan Monitors
HT
Pioneer DVDP 410, AVR HK 255, Paradigm CC190, JBL Control 1's, Subwoofer JBL CSS 10

I dont know much about AV or audio so lets just use common sense. I assume your CC190 center is sonically matched to the Titan monitors.

As I see it, the front 3 channels (front left, right and center) work in tandem to create the front soundtage. Would this not mean that the front 3 channels should recieve the same signal/processing? Feeding the Titans from the NAD and the CC190 from the HK255 would mean this is not the case.

Yes the NAD has better audio but the sonic signature of the NAD would not be the same as that of the HK.

If you are willing to accept this compromise (NAD>Titan and HK>CC190) then what sound 1 suggested wouldf give you the cleanest signal for Audio. This migth well be your best option.
