Hello,

Listening: 70 % music 30% movies
Need of an AVR that would meet the above need.

Speakers: QA 2020 (front right, left, centre), surround - local speakers.

Will use more for music movie:music: 70:30 or 60:40

suggestions welcome

My thoughts: Denon 1610

Is there any entry level Marantz AVR ?

Some of our forum members might have some good AVR 's they may want to let go ... Why not get a better one for the entry level price.. ?

Try posting in the wanted section

Or

Yday I saw few AVR's in reliance digital stores @ decent prices you may wanna check with your local store in chennai.

if you are seriously gonna use for mostly music and if its gonna stay that way
look at denon and marantz only
Both AVRs would work even with a speaker upgrade later

A denon 1700 series or if you can get hold of an older 1600 series at a bargain price would be good
im giving this advice looking at the current setup and assuming you have no plans to go to HIDEF 7.1 in audio
the above AVR's are more than sufficient for my need at least

Thanks Magma for your reply. My question is is 50W sufficient ? or should I look for more from A/V Receiver. Marantz would be better than Denon to my knowledge atleast music wise. How is Marantz on movies? How do we compare Marantz model vs Denon 1610 ? I don't have plan for 7.1 audio for sure in future.

Denon 1910 is good for music & will match with QA.
Other AVR which is not available in India is Sony ES series(say 2400)

i like the denon AVr's
i think they will probably be over 50W

i havent heard the marantz in question so i cant form an opinion

Balajeem, I ve listened to the Marantz nr1501 in a room similar in size to yours. And believe the 50w is real! It sounded good and was loud enough. Dont go by the over ambitious figures that other manufacturers generally claim for their avrs!

Thanks, that's what I also feel , 50W power is good enough for my room size and since marantz AVRs are known for music, I was just wondering if I should go for that model. I am ok to compromise on movies but I think it wouldn't be too bad for movies also. QA will go well with Marantz ??

Hi iaudio, balaji,

My experience was not similar. I auditioned the Marantz NR1501 & Denon AVR-1610 side by side with Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers. I felt the Marantz could not deliver the lows (bass) as well as the Denon. Just my opinion though.

Balaji I strongly advise you to audition both the AVRs at the same time before making a decision. If I am not wrong, the price of the Denon 1610 could be less than the Marantz NR1501.
