To my knowledge, Vector system deals with it.. you can try reaching them using the Bangalore contact details available online.

When I contacted Vector-Hyderabad, I was quoted around 85K for pair of 684 and 683 must be costing even more

sometime soon i will be putting my b&w 601s3 and lcr 60 on sale. these were made in england in contrast to the newer ones which are made in china.

anyone other place?
This Vector system guy sounds like a crook...quoted me ~1.2lakhs for 683 &,
..52K by one sales person & 58K by another sales guy for the 685! Ha!!

Ok. Found!
B&W 683 ~110K
B&W 684 ~70K (Don't remember exactly)
B&W 685 ~51K
B&W 686 ~36K

Rather absurd prices...esp for the 685 and and the 686...at this prices they should include some good stands

i found from links that price is around $650...30K. So 20K is a big difference, this should include the import duty & shipping. But, one should consider that they get it at much lower than the MSRP of $650 from the manufacturers. Then you start wondering :)
Any one has any idea how much can one bargain for these? Max to pay?? I agree 52K is not happening.

VAT here is 13.5%, is that included as well..just make sure you are comparing apples to apples...

You wana compare "apples to apples"? lets do it!

Speakers priced around $650 MSRP (30K). Lets see, why would someone be in the market and sell products if they dont have a profit to make. So the manufacturer is selling lower to the dealers in their country itself! From reliable sources....Profit margin 40%-50% in audio.
So any 'not so smart' Indian dealer will be able to negotiate a price around 20K and now with shipping included, means pretty much import tax exempt...negligible at most. So Lets making it a higher 30K + 13.5% tax equals ~34K. Which of course is still a higher side in my calculations!

Ok. Lets put it this way. The best price for 685 in UK is 380 includes 20% VAT which is about 27k . If the seller shipping it directly outside UK he shouldn't charge 20% VAT so the invoice price comes to lower than 22k INR. DTDC gave me a shipping quote of 4 a kilo for shipping from UK to India. For 16 kilos it would roughly come to 70 which is about 5k INR.
If you can talk to a dealer in UK convince him to ship it by using DTDC to India the speakers with shipping would cost about 22k + 5k = 27k INR.
If you're paying 35% as customs on top of 27k INR it would be additional 9k INR.
So for 36k INR if you try you can have the 685's shipped from UK to India. But remember you can't avail any warranty without shipping it back to UK.

I'm sure there are other speakers which can be equally good or better than B&W 685's for a reasonable price.
The Kef Q300 price in India 32k INR is same as in UK which is 450.

I was just merely suggesting to not overlook the VAT, thats all, there was no "challenge" in my post if thats how it came across to you. I dont sell B&W and neither do I have any plans of selling them in the future, I have no vested interest in their pricing structure ...

However, just to correct what you mentioned, the import duty ends up being close to 35%, its not negligible...not sure what you mean by this.
cheers

Is there a VAT for imported items? I thought VAT is only for domestically produced items. Doesn't Customs a substitute for VAT? Again I don't have any idea about this. Does anyone know how it works? Just curious.

VAT is applicable on any item sold in India, irrespective of where the goods are imported or produced locally

cheers

Custom is charged for buying them abroad and bringing into the country.

VAT is for selling them again in the country. And it is charged to the buyer :p .

Just for laughs.

Hi,
Before 6 months, i did the same search for B&W685, For my understanding, Singapore is best place to buy 685 speakers, it will cost you around S$1000(Around 33KINR).
But again , you need to travel for combo purchase to get all items.

you can import almost anything from usa at 30% extra cost by ICC worldwide.

ICC World

they used to be the authorized buyer/shipper for ebay india for usa purchases. now they have gone solo. i have bought guitars and guitar parts from the usa through them. the 30% extra goes towards shipping/customs duty (even for used items). though customs is non-negotiable the shipping rate (from the quote they give you based on your item request) can be negotiated depending of the size and weight of the item. if interested you can talk to sanjay ghosal in their ebay purchase department.

and today the price of a return air ticket to london by carriers like gulf air if booked well in advance is like 25k. instead of paying a premium here, you might as well go out there and buy it personally and enjoy a foreign vacation on top of that.
