Dear All,

I am looking for balanced cable with XLR connectors. Could you please give me some pointers , as where to buy it. My DAC and future amp(In Transit)
is having balanced connections, so not looking for more than 1 meter in length.
Please do not suggest expensive ones as the name suggest "balance"-means this cable do not require copper from Mars and connectors from Saturn ::D .

I have already searched Bajaao, ebay & Amazon. They dont have MALE to MALE
terminated XLR cable, rather Male to female and vice versa.

Why don't you just go ahead and get it made? You can use high quality dual core low noise microphone cable which is fantastic for audio. MX makes some high quality XLR connectors and these are readily available. All you'd need is some experience with soldering. I have made all the XLRs for my Church Project which include Microphone cables, the Snake to the Mixer and Interconnects between the mixer and amplifiers.

Yes reubensm,

Good idea..just checked MX connector and cable on the net. I was planing to buy a soldier iron since quiet a long time for venturing into DIY. and this is the first opportunity for me to go for one.

Cheers
Dheeraj

Any pro audio cable with neutrik connectors would do. Gotham, Belden etc are available in Mumbai.

@Dheeraj : usually balanced cables have male at one end and female at the other end. Output port of DAC will be male so the cable's plug has to be female. The input of your amp will be female, so the cable's plug has to be male. The logic is all output points are male and all receiving points are female. Think human anatomy:)

So do recheck your requiremen.

The MX XLR Male and Female connectors costed me about Rs.90 each and high quality low noise dual core cable costed me Rs.30 per meter. Another advantage of making your own cables is that you can keep them as short as required.

@jls001..if you check blue jeans cable website...there are male to male cables available..what anology would you give for them[emoji6]

Gr8 ..in pune i got..canare cable and MX connector.. In pro audio shop..guy is asking me...are you a DJ.. I said...no..i am from the more insane part of that world[emoji16]

If after checking you confirmed that you need male to male, then please make/buy that. Standard balanced interconnects are male to female.

If you're planning on DIY I strongly recommend using Neutrik XLRs. Outside of exotics like Oyaide or Kryna they're probably the best. About Rs 800 apiece.

Blue Jeans would be a great place to buy quality cables at a reasonable price, but even I find that I can solder the connections for cables, and they tell me that practice makes perfect!

+1 for bluejeans. A no-nonsense cable company which publishes spec about their cables and the connectors. My balanced XLRs are from them. Best part is, you can customize the length and the connectors.

Going a bit OT but since we are talking of cables (sans any controversy:)) I thought this newsletter from the maverick Mark Baker of Origin Live is relevant and of interest to all of us:

Choosing Hi Fi Cables

<End of OT>

Caveat: this is from a manuacturer of (among other audio stuff like turntables, excellent tonearms, and even speakers) audio cables. So the usual caveat about taking it with appropriate quantities of salt applies.

Caveat 2: long article. Read at your leisure

I dont accept, the views of the article unless presented with facts and figures like blue jeans company has done. So its my thinking now and please dont again create any controversy here by convincing each other about what each of us think.

Sorry, Dheeraj, I'm not trying to stir up a controversy here. I agree that facts and figures appeal to some and they can be very useful indicators.

This is your thread, so in case you disagree strongly and feel that my post has taken this thread on a different tangent, please feel free to ask a mod to expunge my above post. Cheers:)
