Folks, I am looking for a basic 2.0 system. An av receiver and 2 bookshelf speakers for listening to Internet radios , and stream movies ( not looking for for home theatre oomph/bass , just want the music to sound better and not need to turn on the TV). I would be using Apple TV and wdtv live as source.

Any recommendation for receiver/ pair of bookshelf in 25k to 30k range (total).

ahh..you need hdmi right..
then you can do basic avr like denon 1311....22k...and 9k bs..set up...

or

hdmi to stereo converter...stereo amp...bs...

or
if your player send audio simultaneously via....red and white..or spdif...alongwith vedio via hdmi..
you can buy streo amp(with optical in..if applicable to your case) and bs...no need of hdmi

Sonodyne Sonus 1501 Bookshelf for 10K...Try to get an used HDMI receiver for 20K from the forum itself... There would be a bunch of people who want to upgrade receivers...

Hope this will help you better over stereo amplifier...A matter of convenience with connectivity....Easy to switch input sources...

Infact i had a wishlist for Sonodyne where i mentioned that stereo receivers should have HDMI inputs....Stereo receivers with HDMI are going to be the future...:ohyeah:

oh elangoes..you are correct..i completly forgot..

to op..please check sale section..a maratnz avr is on sale...also a yamaha ....maratnz is dirt cheap..as its hdmi board is defective...but optical is perfect...
anyway check sale section..

Thanks guys. Would start trolling the classifieds for used receivers. Yeah stereo receivers with HDMI is big hole in product offerings.

It depends on the brand and the way they have been used, my father in law has Bose 301 speakers which he bought in 1985 and it still works like a charm...

Someone is selling Harmon Kardon AVR 70, for 15k ( less than an year old). Does it suit well for this purpose.

I juz checked the specifications of HK AVR 70..It has 3 HDMI inputs + 3 Digital inputs..Good connectivity for audio...(infact more than enough if you don't have too many components)

If you are getting this in bangalore & from the forum member/outside forum, plz go there, check the system..Only if you are convinced, then buy it..Else don't..

Good luck..

Hi Simple,

I saw an unusual system in Denon which may fit your bill.

It is a simple central unit with 2 speakers. Built in blu ray player, radio and a basic amp built in. It is there in the Denon printed catalogue. Model D-X1000BD.

Looks to be of good build quality of European standards. It is there only in their printed catalogue. I have the catalogue so I can say for sure.

Take a look.

Vinod

Thanks Vinod for the suggestion, but the that model doesn't have HDMI inputs so doesn't serve my need.

I acquired used wharfs (9.2) from a FM. looking for an AVR now. Probably will check out a used HK AVR 70. Anybody knows how that goes with 9.2 diamonds?

Very good...Congrats..Diamond 9.2 are one of the finest speaker & very highly regarded in the forum... @ what price did you get it ?

Where r u getting the HK AVR for 15K? in the forum/Outside forum ?

Per the manual, "The HK AVR 70 is rated @ 75W per channel, two channels driven @ 6 ohms, 20Hz 20kHz, <0.1% THD; per the manual..." It should do...

HK AVR is gone. So now the options are

Denon 1513 or Yamaha RC-V371. Any recommnedations between the two, and right price?
