hey guys ... i have a HTPC .. i have connected my samsung 46inch tv to my pc(ati hd5870 video card) through hdmi ..
i have been using logitech z5500 speakers for a long time ... now i am planning to set up a new home theatre for my pc ..
i have lot of flac audio and bluray 1080p movies in my harddisk ...
guys please suggest me a good avr and 5.1 home theatre package for 1.5 lakhs... i have only 1 lakh now. but i can extend my budget upto 1.5 lakhs .. i wil be using it only for music and bluray movies ..
i have only one hdmi out in my pc ... so i have to connect it to either my plasma tv or avr ... how can i get both audio and video from my pc ...
also note that i have asus xonar essence stx audio card for audio ... so there is an optical output in my audio card .. but somebody told me that i cannot get hd(dts-MA or dd TrueHD) audio from my bluray movies through optical output ... i dont have any bluray player or bluray discs ..
i have heard that hdmi supports both hd audio and video at the same time ... so if i connect my pc hdmi out to avr hdmi in and avr hdmi out to my tv, wil i be able to get both audio and video ...
i dont know whether the avr wil split the audio and video and send it to the speakers and tv ...
i am very new to this .. so guys plz help me ...
i have read some reviews about denon, yamaha, onkyo, marantz for the avr and polk audio, wharfedale, klipsch for the speaker package ...
also i want to know whether to go for bookshelf or floor standing speakers ... is there a big difference between the two ..
all suggestions are welcome ... thank you guys ...

HDMI supports both audio and video. So connect HDMI out of PC to one of the HDMI IN of AVR. Connect the HDMI out of AVR to TV. This way you will get both audio and video using hdmi. Optical cable does not support hd audio.

i dont know the exact size ... its a medium sized room around 5/4 metres .. i did a lot of research in this forum ... but still cant choose one ...
i have read some reviews about denon, yamaha, onkyo and confused which one to go ...
also read lot of reviews about speakers too ... polk audio tsi series, master audio, klipsch, wharfedale ..
a lot of guys told me that i need to extend the budget which i cant right now..
so i am planning to buy reciever and front floor standing speakers alone ..
i wil add sub, centre and rear speakers later ...
so budget is 1 lakh rupees ...
suggest me a good reciever and matching floor standing speakers ..
i think denon 1912 is good according to the reviews i read in this forum ... but i a little bit confused about the speakers .. because the denon avr1912 costs 40000 in india and i have 60000 left for my speakers ...
i really dont know whether my avr wil drive the 60000 worth speakers ...
do i need an amplifier for driving these speakers ...
according to specification , these speakers are rated around 300w/speaker and denon avr1912 is rated 80w per channel ...
so do i really need an amplifer to efficiently use these speakers ...
i also want to know whether floor standing speakers are made for bigger rooms and bookshelf speakers are made for medium sized rooms ... because i really dont know ..
i think the floor standing speakers produce more sound than the bookshelf speakers .. any suggestion guys ...

you have a good budget. Please listen to as many speakers as you can. For receiver my pick would be Marantz SR5006, its an excellent AVR. But please feel free to demo Denon also with all the speaker options available. Every speaker will sound different with different receivers.

You have the option for going for a full 5.1 speaker system or just the front towers and then build your system speaker by speaker. Some of the good speaker names are Mordaunt Short, Wharfedale, Polk Audio, Paradigm, Tannoy, etc.........This should get you started. Try to demo speakers with different receivers and then decide what kind of sound you like. Some speakers go well with some receivers.

hi even i am a beginner in this ..i have been doing the same research for more than a year..due financial problems i am unable to buy lately..but the research is still on...my suggestion like aakashr said would be marantz sr5006..//even i was more inclined towards denon1912 ..before i heard sr5006...its equally good for movies as it is for music..also if u have any relatives or friends in gulf try and buy it from there its atleast 5-8 thousand cheaper...my personal choice would be marantz sr5006 and mordaunt short aviano series..but if u have little bit more get mezzo series....hope it helps

thanks man .. i wil check marantz sr5006 too ... i have read lot of reviews in this forum and they told that denon wil be good for movies and marantz wil be good for music .. i wil be watching movies most of the time .. it wil be like 80 percent movies and 20 percent music ... so only i have chosen the denon as it is good for music too as per the reviews ...
can someone suggest me some good floor standing speakers and the sub ... as i said my room size is like 16/14 feet ..

Thta a general perception that Maantz i better for music... Well the only way to lay this to rest is if you Audition both the Marantz and Denon

Would not want to ruffle any features but skip the 1912. I'd personally pick the Marantz 5006 over the 1912 for movies as well as music.
Consider Yamaha 671/3 as well as the Onkyo NR609

i have seen lot of reviews in this forum .. many have told that marantz and denon is much better than yamaha, onkyo and pioneer for both music and movies .. i dont know .. anyway i wil audition as many as possible ...

if I had a pick between 5006 and 1912.............5006 would be my pick!!!

Have heard Yamaha Rx671 - Good balance between Movies and Music. Would prefer it over Denon I think if you are looking for a mix between movies & movies.
