What would be the best way in terms of mic, software etc to record audio off the speakers? I certainly don't expect DSD quality from a mic, but some budget options which would be certainly much better than the phone. This is required as part of a remastering project. Cheers. Stay safe

Do you mean audio off comptuter playback? If so the below one is the best way to do in my humble opinion.

1. Windows: You don't need mic or any new hardware. You can use Mixer device in Windows as recording device with any recorder app like Audacity (open source). This mixer device records directly as digital signal in chip, so that there no noisy analog.
2. Linux: In Pulseaudio control software select Monitor device as recorder (usually you need to unhide it in list) and use Audacity.

Some good ytube videos are recorded with camcorder with external mic.Usually user writes recording details with model numbers.

Zoom or Tascam external audio recorders would be a good place to start. Which model would depend on your budget.
