Big billion day - Flipkart - is it a failure

it was a big hoax of a sale. i am working 5:30 to 2:30 pm these days and was on flipkart and refreshing every minute as not much work to do in those hours.. all the items which were supposedly cheaper were out of stock at 8 am itself.. forget bout being a minute or 2 later.

just another big hoax and sell more items in a jiffy to clear the warehouse. prices inflated and then discounted.. it was funny to see snpdeal selling same items for cheaper without discount and flipkart selling it for 50-70% and still expensive...

take example of EOS 1200D. flipkart was showing 14k and was selling for 17K+ however snapdeal sold the same for 13.9K...

I bought a Dell Laptop from Amazon which was available for discount at Flipkart but out of stock when I added to cart...the Amazon price was Rs. 2000 lesser than the Flipkart so called discounted item...Even the iPad minis are much cheaper at Amazon which I plan to pick up on 10th (hopefully even cheaper than the current price of Rs. 16,200)

I am convinced most of the "Out of stock" deals may be hoax to create the hype so that you get the feeling that you have to buy "something" to make at least "some benefit" out of the sale.

However I bought a Mi 5200 mAH power bank for 500 rupees on FK during the sale which was way lower than the listed price on competitor ecommerce websites. So I am still happy somewhat getting that at a lower price.

Flipkart has always been like this, whenever there is a heavy discount on any item you will see ("SOLD OUT") in front of it :D.

Last year i looked at Transformers collection(3 movie set), whenever i check it was either Available - 2999, with sold out tag - 2400 :D. I don't understand what they are trying to prove.

I was looking for a TV whose MRP was around 65000. The big sale showed 12000 off and however pegged it at around Rs 45000 i.e 20000 off. I was very happy and clicked on the listing. It took me right to the earlier normal listing where they were providing max 8000 off on 65000 on exchange offer. I could not make head or tail out of it. The customer care number always cut off when the executive was supposed to attend to me. It had happened several times and i left it.
So many inconsistencies and no help in hand. What a joke.

I just saved Rs.50000 on ?#?flipkart? today..
..
...
As all items which I wanted to buy are out of stock :eek:hyeah::eek:hyeah::eek:hyeah:

Hemant Sir, after some introspection, I, too, had similar feelings . :). I would have ordered a DSLR, which is actually planned for quite a later date when the pocket would be comfortable. Thanks God I couldn't find a deal.:D

Big scam... logged in at 7.55 and tried till 8.45 to get a deal. I am waiting for amazon.in deal. They are more professional and reliable.

I ordered and paid for a 40" philips LED TV @ 27900 with a further cash back of 2000 from citi card. After multiple attempts the payment went through and order was confirmed. 2 hours later, Flipkart cancelled the order and informed me that the refund will be made by 17th.

This way they will have crores of rupees interest free for 10 days. A big hoax

Reading posts on this thread, I feel like it is better to avoid *all* kinds of shopping, discount or no discount, on these *special* days of e-commerce retailers. The *special* days are for sellers, not for us buyers, I suppose!

I will have to wait for a few days for my 'regular' shopping until these *special* celebratory days 'subside' as I don't plan to be one to give these sellers some 'interest free loan' for a few days at my cost!

pls friend do not call me Sir ... my white hair (before time) does not because of any AV expereince .. and lemme feel bit younger by calling Buddy Hemant :eek:hyeah::eek:hyeah::rolleyes:

I too tried between 7.45 to 8.30 am for multiple items (Tab, vacum cleaner, HDD), nothing worked out. though items were NOT listed as out of stock, when i tried to add them in kart, it simply did not go.

It was just a hoax or something to provoke you to buy some other thing in shopping temptation.....

According to Flipkart it was a wonderful success.

They seem oblivious to the damage done to their reputation. Management bullshit being so far removed from reality does not say much for the future of the company. I'll probably still buy from them, but I wouldn't invest!

Just now got this email from FK in my inbox

Dear Customer,

Yesterday was a big day for us. And we really wanted it to be a great day for you. But at the end of the day, we know that your experience was less than pleasant. We did not live up to the promises we made and for that we are really and truly sorry.

It took enormous effort from everyone at Flipkart, many months of preparation and pushing our capabilities and systems to the limit to be able to create this day. We were looking at fulfilling the dreams of millions of Indian consumers through deals and offers we had painstakingly put together for months.

And though we saw unprecedented interest in our products and traffic like never before, we also realized that we were not adequately prepared for the sheer scale of the event. We didn't source enough products and deals in advance to cater to your requirements. To add to this, the load on our server led to intermittent outages, further impacting your shopping experience on our site.

An unprecedented 1.5 million people shopped at Flipkart yesterday. While we stand humbled by the sheer faith that such a large number of customers have shown in us, we are unhappy that we were unable to live up to the expectations of millions more who wanted to buy from us yesterday.

And this is not acceptable to us.

Delighting you, and every single one of our customers, is absolutely the top most priority for Flipkart and we have worked very hard over the last seven years to earn your trust. Yesterday, we failed that trust. We have learnt some valuable lessons from this and have started working doubly hard to address all the issues that cropped up during this sale.

Price Changes As we were preparing various deals and promotional pricing in the lead up to the sale, the pricing of several products got changed to their non-discounted rates for a few hours. We realise that this breaks the trust our customers have put in us. We are truly sorry for this and will ensure that this never happens again.

Out-of-stock Issues We ran out of the stock for many products within a few minutes (and in some cases, seconds) of the sale going live. For example, most of our special deals were sold out as soon as they went live. We had ensured availability, anywhere from hundreds to a few lakh units for various products, but it was nowhere near the actual demand. We promise to plan much better for future promotions and ensure that we minimise the out-of-stock issues.

Cancellations We had large number of people buying specific products simultaneously. This led to some instances of an order getting over-booked for a product that was sold out just a few seconds ago. We are working round-the-clock to ensure availability of additional units for these products and will do our level best to ensure that we minimise any cancellations.

Website Issues We realise that the shopping experience for many of you was frustrating due to errors and unavailability of the website at times. We had deployed nearly 5000 servers and had prepared for 20 times the traffic growth - but the volume of traffic at different times of the day was much higher than this. We are continuing to significantly scale up all our back end systems so that we do a much, much better job next time.

Everything that we have achieved at Flipkart is purely on the basis of our customer's trust and faith. This is why we come to work each day and continue to remain extremely passionate about building the best possible customer experience for Indian consumers. We failed to live up to this promise yesterday and would like to apologise once again to every single customer for our failure.

Thank you.
Sachin and Binny

Damage Control Public Relations exercise? After being in the market for years and after preparing for months for this DAY to say that they were not prepared takes the cake.
"Price Changes As we were preparing various deals and promotional pricing in the lead up to the sale, the pricing of several products got changed to their non-discounted rates for a few hours."- After so much preparation by veterans in the field how the above happened?

I got this mail too.

Looks like a damage control exercise.

Of course the wording is sincere, but how they live up to it is up to them.

I'm guessing that all FK's customers got this mail?

Flipkart announces big sale; Flipkark screws up; Flipkart apologises. It doesn't impress me very much.

I'm sad about Flipkart: they seem to have gone the way of Airtel, which is to build a big customer base by caring and then... stop caring.

For stuff like this you need to be logged in and ready with your cards to buy @ 12 AM. I bought the Moto E for Rs. 5499, 1500 lesser than the price now and before oct 6th. I know someone at work bought 5 pen drives for Rs. 5 (16gbs)
