Dear friends,
Setting up and installing Home theaters and Music Systems is a pain due to the need for optimum phase alignment and level adjustments required.
Those who have stuff like Audessey have it easier though the results may not be ideal.
It is a fact that as Indians were not exposed to HIFI till the recent past, and their ability to playback loud bass notes, all one wants from a music system is Bass, Bass and the most Bass one can squeeze from a system.
Concepts such as hearing the same thing that was heard in the recording studio many people are not aware of and dont care ... Just more and more bass... The more the better.
Why play with placement issues, levels and distances(delays) of your subwoofer during setup? Why not just buy the biggest subwoofer you almost definitely cannot afford and overwhelm the room with heavy bass that is so powerful that it negates the need for corrective methods? So much Bass that reflections and peaks and losses dont matter anymore? A subwoofer so large and so tight (Read Expensive), there is no discernable booming even at high volumes that would trouble a less expensive subwoofer?
What do you guys think? Who cares if you live and breathe audiophile things and Hyperion and MFSL records when your friends dont care and want only one thing apart from women..that is.. MegaBass?
Yours,

Haha good point. Been through this forever. Friends like those are an audiophile's curse. I've learnt to live with it.

I even admit without argument these days that my harman kardons pale in front of the Logitec Z5500. :D

What is the value of such questions? Will you ever be able to do something this silly?

Secondly, like all Indians, you are confusing good sound with amplitude. If you want good sound, irrespective of the size of the sub woofer or speaker, the room has to have good acoustics. Cinema halls that have multiple very large woofers do have acoustics done.

If you want amplitude, you don't have to spend money. Buy one of the boom boxes, stick it near you ear, and you can happily go deaf in a few weeks.

Cheers

@venkat: Chill saar. It's obvious the OP is kidding. Must be another frustrated audiophile who invited some friends over for a drink sat down for a listen with them and some bass-heads must've ridiculed the price to bass ratio of the setup so meticulously put together over the years. :)

Dear Venkat,
Yes. Of course I meant the amplitude of the sub-woofer. not the quality.
We are almost on the same frequency.I admit I am a big fan of good, accurate audio systems and the never ending and near impossible nature of this quest - Audiophile quality sound.. But I must admit that even though I have a barely decent home theater, and when I feel satisfied most of the time with my SW 150, The neighbour's car goes booming by..with its dual 12 inch woofers. I lay on record here that I, having grown up admiring a certain maker called "Reginald" and their then rare active speaker systems with powered crossovers, Church organs, P.A. Systems etc., I also admired Torvin and Craftel, Audiocom, Cosmic,Cox, and a few others. Those 80's days, Reginald was the ultimate. Then, someone suggested, with the market opening up, that other imported speakers and amplifiers could be better, I sadly have to agree. I long for those days again.

Dear Ruenigma,
Most people dont care and more dont care less abt this persuit. It has become a solitary hobby for me. But, sometimes I wonder, How can my Brother's Altec Lansing 2.1 Multimedia speakers sound so deep and gruff? Sound quality alone cannot dictate terms here i am sad to admit.
Price could be a factor. Another: Keeping up with the Simpsons. "I am happy with what I've got as long as everything works". I sincerely wish I can.. Thanks.:yahoo:
