In addition to Deba's Thread

IMPO:indifferent14:
These guys are in Direct competion with Ajuja PA equipments.
You get the point.
No!
ok, check here for more Detailed comparisonsAhuja Sound Solutions.
You can compare randomly any given porduct from Bose with any random product from Ahjua.
But ultimately you will find Bose better in all the aspects(..but slightly expensive).
one more thing - atleast Ahjua site DO LIST the techinical specs and are being very truthfull.

And after that - if you need more dose, come back...

I did audition Bose speakers at a mall in chandigarh. BOSE products are not VFM.

I think,here is a simple explanation (source:CNET FORUMS)

BOSE PROS:- BOSE sounds good (but not great)
- Innovative designs (high WAF,wife acceptance factor)
- Easy to use
- Have an aura to them such that your friends who don't know a lot about hi- fi will think you have a really great system.

BOSE CONS:
- Expensive for what you get.
- Leave a lot to be desired in the low range
- Leave a lot to be desired in the midrange
- Your audiophile friends will scold you for buying them

Many people buy BOSE because they are BOSE. These folks rarely listen to other brands. From this one learns that , Bose is probably one of the best MARKETED speakers in the world and that's it.

BUT:-

Choosing speakers is a very personal matter/choice, if BOSE sounds good to your ears over all other brands and budget is not the limiting factor, then one should not worry what others have to say about them.

KEY
is to audition as many speakers as you can if you find better and cheaper alternatives, go for it.

Regards:)

Bose, B&O, Nakamichi and the likes are lifestyle equipment. May or may not be audiophile quality but high on WAF, price and usually very low on VFM.
PERIOD

Today's Nakamichi is lifestyle after Etsuro & Niro Nakamichi (father & son) were done with the company & handed it over to the Chinese.

In the entire '80s & into the '90s, they were some 'serious gear makers', & their Cassette-decks esp the 3-Head ones are legendary & most desirable machines on earth with a cult following!

That's really true. Nakamichi Casette Players were very coveted I must agree.

i suppose ur referring to the dragon series.drool material.
@op,havin used a few bose products, must admit that their earlier stuff from the mid 80's was far better than now in terms of musicality.they have absolutely no value.now if every audio component manfr or otherwise could market themselves as bose does, thatd be somethin to see!!cheers

Dear Members, Thanks a lot for yuor valuable & enlightning inputs.
Kindly suggest any entry level home theatre speaker systems that may be connected directly to the output from HDMI tv or DTH settop box for beginers.I mean speaker systems that can enhence the sound quality of Tv.Thanks once again for the inputs.

Its better if you can also mention your budget ..... So that it will be easier for ppl to guide you.

BOSE is the biggest joke in the audiophile/videophile fraternity and is quite simply also the biggest rip-off in the audio/video industry. Atleast B&O, another rip-off company, has style and their products actually look good. Pretty much anything you buy, other than some cheap Chinese stuff, will be better than Bose and most certainly will be MUCH better value for money. The only person you can impress with a Bose is an ignorant wife and others of her ilk. Personally, I would not touch a Bose product with a barge pole.

I suppose I should also mention, that Bose and their so called great marketing, amounts to nothing but blatant lies and dishonest business practices. They are probably the only audio/video company that refuses to provide the technical specifications of their products. By refusal I mean, they don't mention the specifications on their products, the packaging, the manuals, the catalogs or for that matter on their website. In fact you can even request the company directly for the specifications and they will not provide them. Say's a lot about the company and their products, doesn't it?

PS: I hope I have not offended anybody by my strong comments, but I felt somebody has to be blunt and honest here.

what u are trying to say is that speakers with built-in Amplifier like speakers from brands such Creative, Logitech etc?

if you are truly fascinated about bose, then buy only their speakers (Rs 55K). they will sound much better with any yamaha/marantz amplifier. buying full bose HT system is really big waste of money (2lakh). you can get 100 time better system in 2 lakh.

thanks, my budget is around 50K

You have not mentioned which city you are in.
If there is a ProFX showroom in your city, I would suggest that you go and audition Denon AVR and Polk speakers.
Profx - Advanced Audio Solutions

The combo you can get for 50K is :
- Denon 1610 AVR
- Polk Audio RM 705 5.1 speaker package

The Denon 1610 is an excellent entry level AVR (ie home theatre amplifier).

If you increse your budget a little, you can buy better speakers. Wharfedale Diamond home cinema package speakers are often recomended on this board.

yesterday, I happen to have some spare moments with me & saw a BOSE Store in a mall. Decided to pay them a visit - just to keep myself abreast of what they're up to these days.

Saw their iPod solutions, 2 kinds were there. A smaller one & a larger one. They shoved in an iPod and heard the sound. Low midbass and mid treble were all I heard of the sound tracks. Where's the midrange? vanished. There's no low bass and forget about high frequency extension.

Next were their computer range of speakers. Again, the same kind of experience as the iPod stuff.

Finally - their HT stuff. More or less, similar kind of sound.

I mean - how the hell do these guys call themselves sound specialists with bits & pieces of frequencies being transmitted out of their speakers (its like small gobs of sound being thrown out).

The Store lady asked me if I could follow her to their special HT Room for a Demo that I simply refused with an excuse that am running late.

I mean - I'd enough of their sound and was wondering if my hearing had gone bad..... But luckily there was a Car Stereo store couple of stores next to them and heard a few Car stereos and soon realized that my hearing is fine.... The BOSE is downright "the biggest daylight robbery there could be on this planet for sound systems".

BTW - while I was at the BOSE Store, someone was busy taking delivery of a full blown HT system after swiping his plastic card for a little more than 2 lacs. Voila!!!

What more do I say........

Hey audio_engr,

Is it that at Bose store they showcase every product they have in the store?
I am asking this because, I also went to Bose store thrice and on all occasions salesperson showed me their complete HT solution, speakers, headphone etc.

On third visit to store I was intersted in bookshelf speakers, still sales guy said to hear headphones. And that too he was pushing for it. Even though I clearly stated, I want only bookshelves.

Sorry, for being off topic.

Thanks,
Vivekam

Re: BOSE Audio- My Story with Marantz 5002

Ran across this discussion yesterday. Here's my experience.

Last year I purchased a Marantz 5002 for my home theater system. It came with a very difficult and technical manual. I still don't understand it. Due to Hurricane Charly, I am using two Bose 301 front speakers, a Bose center speaker, and the Bose Acoustimass passive subwoofer. For the rear speakers I have a pair of 100 watt JBL Control ONe's. I am using the Brighthouse Scientific Atlanta DVR. I am disabled and had a fried hook up the speakers and equipment using the HDMI connections. All heck broke loose. I had crackling and squeaking noises from the rear JBL's and the 5002 shut down. After a few unsuccessful tries, I called Marantz and their technician had me go through some various permutations and told me it needed to be repaired. I sent the 5002 to Atlanta for repairs. I live in Tampa, FL and Atlanta was the nearest authorized repair shop. While I was waiting, I went back to my old Sony receiver and had no problems. When the Marantz 5002 came back, we set it all up and had the same problems. As long as the volume was set low, I had no crackling from the rear jbl's but I started having problems with the sound going off and on. I had the Brighthouse technicians come over and they tried many, many, different connections from using the red, green, & blue cables, to the red and white cables, and many various permutations. I have had over 11 techs from Brighthouse try to fix the situation.

I now, after 15 month, learned that the Marantz 5002 is probably incompatable with the Bose Acoustimass Passive subwoofer system. Can anyone out there verify this and help with a solution. I'll be glad to try and answer any technical questions. Please know first hand that I am an idiot when it comes to electronics and it takes me a bit of time to crawl around and change cables. But right now I'd piss on a spark plug if someone can help me figure this all out. Thanks and have a great day!
