Budget AVR to go with Andrew Jones speakers

If budget is a concern, this is the best you can get at the price. Use it for a few years before you decide to upgrade. Trust me, you can do a lot with the room instead of just increasing the budget. I regret not getting the sub along with the 5.0 system and opting for an Astonia.

ya...I can understand it. that is why though i was really really impressed by AJ series woofer but i still deffered to get it as i was not sure.

when i watched DARK night rises clip during audition. it was so good that I cross checked with vendor twice with amazement that "IS IT THE PIONEER SUB",
it was cool.
because at this forum every one was telling it as a weak sub so i still deffered.

Now i think i am considering it back. in my opinion it is a VFM option.

Yes it is very good VFM, I am not planning to change it anytime soon. At 30% the bass it's enough for the room.

Hello All,

Thanks for all your invaluable guidance and support. After using the speaker and avr for some months now some feedback.

Andrew Jones 5.1: Work's great, sound is strong and full.I feel that sound is a bit held back by the receiver.I am happy listening to music, watching movies and playing games from laptop via HDMI. I have seen mostly anime and ones like Paprika gave off very good sound.
Sub I was afraid might be under powered, never brought it above 50% as well.Quite good enough for me in my room. Varies a lot with music played,at same volume the bass is so intense that it can suffocate with pressure on chest and with others the bass can only be heard. This seems to be independent of the bitrate. For some music sub seems to rattle as well always.reducing the power makes it go away.

Pioneer receiver VSX 523: Very neutral I think, haven't tried or heard other receivers but sounds natural to me.I have never went over 50 in the sound which goes till 100(I think). Settings are easy to use, since I don't have a TV yet, lack of OSD was never a problem.Very easy to setup and calibrate the receiver from it's screen and remote.Buttons are easy to reach.USB takes a lot of time to load, never used it.Doesn't heat even after playing music for many hours.

Stabilization:Stabilizer V Gurd VG100(~1500 off eBay) and Belkin surge protector(bought from dealer ~950).

Power Consumption:Out of curiosity I measured the power consumed by AJ 5.1+Receiver+laptop(few USB devices connected). It ranges from 98-2685W(max),mostly around 150W. The power was taken off socket so it includes the stabilizer inefficiency losses as well.Receiver was in standard setting with eco mode on it was 94W-105W. I knew the laptop takes about 34W with screen on and less than 20W with screen off. average 100W-150W for all systems, turning sound upto 50 had no increased electricity intake.Sub however is a different story seems to take more and more electricity as the knob is turned and switching it off makes the whole system never above 100W. Speaker off button on receiver keeps it b/w 87-91W.

I hope this helps some one else and I am happy with everything.
