Buying Receiver from UK

Hi All,

Couple of my friends are returning from UK and I am planning to ger reciever from there....

I can see the price gap is amazingly huge ...

For 250+GBP you can get a RX-V675! here it is double the price...

Will there be any issues like power/connectivity problems if i buy from there??

I can even see that Tannoy HTS101 / Wharfedale DX-1 is around 270GBP there and here they are being sold for 70K....

Please advise me on this.

No issues buying in UK (except warranty, if that matters to you).

I believe there is a limit around 35K and price of 675 is 28K...so can manage i guess...

But im thinking if the power variation wld be there and possibility of stepping down the transformer....

i hope you get it at that price...i am waiting for people to come from us too dunno when exactly though ... was also considering rxv 675 or other models

Step down trasnformer not reqd for products purchased from eurpoe/middle east countries as they have the same voltage as India.. 220Volts....

Yup... if you can cough up some more, get the higher end AVR.. like for 35K.... You might easily get a top of an midrange AVR...I mean RXV 775 (or) RX A 810 series...

35K is the limit.. Sometimes it is a hit (or) miss with customs.. Sometimes they let you go without asking you a question, sometimes they stop & demand...No worries...Go ahead....

Indian mains voltage is same as UK @ 240 volts. This is higher than mainland Europe which is 220 volts. If anyone uses in India European market electronic gear that is designed to work on 220 volts, the output from the secondary of of the power trafo inside the gear shall be more than what the circuit is designed for, shortening the life of critical components.

How was custom clearance of your friend? Was there any damage to the device?

I am also planning to bring an AV receiver from US to India.

Buying AVR from UK, my major requirement is Movies, with DTS, True HD and Master Audio. Music is secondary, help me narrow down.
Budget upto30k, but looking for VFM deal.

2. Pioneer VSX-529-K 5.2 Channel Network AV Receiver @ 179 BGP
3. Yamaha RX-V577 @219BGP
4. PIONEER VSX924 @279BGP

It seems like in Indian customs, if you buy products which are more than 10000 INR then you have to pay customs which is nearly 36% of product cost.

It is mandatory in India. I have paid it few weeks back for my sony receiver. It is your luck if it is skipped by them. But 99% it wont work.

U can look for denon x3000,x3100 models they are also good not sure about the price and availability there.

Did you import it directly or bring it in baggage? I believe duty without free allowance will be applicable only on direct imports and not on equipment brought as baggage where the free allowance should apply. Do correct if I am wrong.

Exactly..I dont think that they will open your complete luggage and check the receiver when you keep it in the check in luggage. Also the limit is around 35 K and not 10K....
