I was exploring the option of buying a Rythmik FV12 sub. I have a cousin travelling to Malaysia tomorrow. Rythmik has a dealer there.

For someone who might have got a sub along with them while travelling back, was wondering what is the baggage rules like usually? The sub weighs 37 KG's, travelling by Malaysian airlines - economy class.
What happens when weight exceeds is it allowed? What if only one baggage is allowed and the sub makes it 2? Do you have to pay or is it that it just won't be allowed?

basically am trying to find if people have got a sub along with them while travelling. if yes, how did it work out when baggage rules dont seem to allow?

The max wt that is allowed is 32 kg,thats after making a payment for overweight luggage.the std wt is 23 kgs,2 bags. Some airlines like emirates allow only 1 bag if your luggage exceeds their standard limit. So instead of two 23kgs ,you can take 1 big luggage.Carrying a big sub is very difficult and most people avoid it,could get damage in transit,in short not recommended, try other lighter a/v equipment for import

you mentioned the sub cud get damaged in transit. What kind of damage can the sub end up with?
Also what about shipping through borderlinx, do you mean to say it is not advisable and is risky to even use borderlinx due to the weight?

If it is original package, then it should be fine. I got my rel sub from US working great since 2007

Important check with airlines for baggage rules, overweight, oversize

Thanks

...anyone on borderlinx?

if the package is original it shud be of no probb.
They put Fragile tag on it and they even had a seperate counter for huge baggage.
I brought my 55" 3d LED TV from Thailand this july via Air Asia...right now my tv is working without any issue's.

With original packaging (you could get it double packed by the vendor for international shipping), it should be fine. Do note that Borderlinx works only for US and UK and the shipping costs would be huge for a heavy sub like this one. Use the calc to get an idea of the costs.

The luggage rules are airline dependent, could be as low as 25kgs with Malaysian.

US airlines are better but they too have a max. 23 kgs per bag, so the excess will be charged. I got the sub from the US via checkin, but mine was much lighter around 20kgs and had no issues.
