Cabinet build: GR Research XLS Encore, XCS Encore, SW12B + SA1 Subwoofer

Folks, Apologies for not updating the thread for a long time as I have been away from the forum. Hope to join the active list from now on :)

Sorry read the whole post only now. Is there any progress?

Hi Rgn1,
Please update us about the progess on your speaker build.
Regards

Well I have been stuck at the same place for the last few months. The assembly is now complete.
I have added silicon sealant to the inside edges of all the cabinets.
I have added the Damping material from Danny to the Encore cabinets and tar sheets to the Sub-woofer cabinets.
The carpenter's work was most disheartening. All he was interested in was to complete the job ASAP and get away. So what has resulted is a very shoddy finish despite my so called supervision. Well lesson learned for future.
The chamfering he has done on the woofer holes is pretty half poor and is uneven. I will now purchase a rough file and try to set it right myself. But I am sure that the saw dust will now get fully lodged in the damping material inside. But no worries, I hope a run of vacuum cleaner will clear some of it.
The application of tar sheets was a bit of PITA. The sheets were not of self adhesive type and hence I had to to a so - called 'tar sheet gum'. This 'tar sheet gum' was nothing but tar which we heated to a melting point, poured on the inside of the woofer cabinets. I then placed the tar sheet on the hot melted tar which acted as the adhesive.
Pending jobs include getting the cabinet painted, soldering of wires to Crossover and speakers, Mounting of crossover, stuffing with Recron and a speaker grill if possible.
I will add photos of current status shortly. :)

Cheers!

Good to know that you are back to your build.

The carpentar part is probably the most difficult part in this build. these guys are difficult to catch and they are not interested in the smaller work. they are in hurry to finish the work so the payment can be settled at the earliest. But nothing can be done to avoid this, we have to go through this process.
