Can normal people appreciate HifiMan headphones - Deal on Hifi Sundara

Hi All..

Have seen some reviews of Sundara. Not that I want one or has time to listen to it. But its black friday and a relative is going to US...so have the itching to buy something..preferably small that can be carried easily....while its too early for the good deals..found the Sundara for around 10-12k INR.

I have lots of IEMs which i use daily on my hour long walks..latest one is the Crinacle red truth hear...whatever its called.

I have bought Bose over the ears and also Audio technica M50 over the past decade and sold it at cost on OLX within 2-3 days as I didnt appreciate its quality music...coz my ears are used to cheap devices and I dont have a proper DAC (box type ones)..do have the USB C to 3.5mm wala cable DACs.

So u think its worth spending 10K...have two late teen sons who can also use it. Guess buying it also means I have to buy a proper DAC to power it and all..if I buy..may I will make myself sit for couple of hours every weekend and play some FLAC files via my AVR and connect the Sundara.

Or given my past history...u think its just another uncle undergoing mid-life crises wasting money ....

If you're looking to enjoy open-back and planar drivers, then spending 10k isn't too steep. I've had the chance to listen to the Sundara, though I haven't owned one myself, but I do have the HiFiMan HE-R9. The Sundara is a sizeable headphone; it's large, but not quite as large as the HE-R9. When I listen for an extended period, it feels like there's a weight on my head, and the Sundara is even heavier. Therefore, if you can try it out for 15 minutes before buying, that would be ideal. The Sundara requires a dedicated amplifier to deliver more intricate sound, and while it lacks the punch of the R9, it excels in vocal performance.

I have a Moondrop Aria and Hifiman Arya Stealth - Stealth has more microdetails and everything somehow sounds larger and more full bodied. At 12K you can try it to see if you like it - you can always sell it out for the same price.

Sundara needs an amp to get its performance - something like a Topping DX3+ would suffice.

If you have never experienced a planar, go for it but be warned though that this can cause’Sher Ke Munh Mein Khoon Lagna’.

I have listened to HIFIMAN 400 at a friend's place , the sound quality is out of world
