Can you identify those?

Hello everybody,

Yesterday I bought those speakers from a shop in Calcutta which specialises in second hand hifi product. Initially I was surprised by the build quality. The case is made of 2 mm thick aluminum. Almost 3.5 kg each they have a three way speaker arrangement. None of them are reconed or looked repaired to my first inspection. The front grill is metallic which comes out if pulled by the finger. Dimension is 7x4.5x3.5 inch.

The speakers had no information at the back of the cabinet. Only thing I know about them is that they are called Tess. Quiet a sweet name for a pair of beautiful looking speaker. Can anybody give any info on those beauties as a search on the net did not yeld anything helpful.

I intend to restore them. So any thought about restoration process is welcome. Would like to recolour the cabinet red by some auto paint shop and restore the black grill too. How to go about cleaning the drivers?

Before spraying anything on it be sure to scrape of the attached paint on the enclosures by sanding it(sand paper or sand block) and then finishing with red scotch brite....

Unfortunately the tweeters are all dead except one. Right now someone is looking for replacements. As we found there was no crossover inside too which we expect to put in now.
The cabinets and front grill are re-coloured from a car painting shop and is looking nice.

Hello Vicky how are you?
It is nice to get in touch again after so many years. Remember you gave me four 8" woofer for my floorstanders.
Right now the this project is under Ashok Da. He has some replacement 2" tweeter from foster (old sonodyne spare) which he will provide. As for the .5" super tweeter its a pizzo. Can you do anything about them?

Well,finally the speakers are ready. Though we had to change the tweeters and add a minimal x-over so that the tweeters don't go kaput again.

Previously the super tweeter was a pizzo. The replaced one is a cloth dome by Sony. The other two inch tweeter is from Sony though with a much bigger magnet structure.

Maybe the tonality of the speaker has changed but there is no way to tell as the original tweeters are dead. All I can say is, they sound very good with any mid heavy musical piece. In normal volume level bass is good and tight.

And ofcourse they look much better than the picture attached.

Total cost approx Rs 5000.

Now looking for a cute lil amp to go with them :lol:

You can look at the ACA which will suit you need and luckily a FM is selling it here also..

Amazing. To be honest, I think I would have binned these speakers as they were before, which would obviously have been a waste. You have turned them into something usable and worthwhile. Great. :clapping:

The shop is "Metro music hall" in metro gali.

Yes I think a Topping will fit the bill perfectly. But also looking for half sized components from yester-years like Sony FH7-Mk II or something like that.
