CD skipping at high volumes !

Sometime back I had given one of my CD players (Musical Fidelity A3.5) to one of our forum members but he is facing a strange problem with it.

The CD player is connected to an integrated amp and when he plays the discs at low volumes, everything works fine. When he increases the volume on the integrated amp to above a certain level the CD player starts skipping. This happens with all CDs that he has tried with.

Any ideas as to what might be happening ?

That's an interesting suggestion. I'll find out about this.

How does clipping cause the CD player to skip ?

I feel it may be only vibrations.Also if CDp & Amp are connected to same electric line,then may amp drawing more power & cdp is getting less.

I am now waiting for an update from the person who has the player. He will be trying it out with a new pre-power combo. If it still skips I'll find out about the location of the player and power line.

As the CD transport mechanism gets older it probably will get susceptible to external vibrations.
It may need to have a new transport eventually.

Though the model is not new, the player was not used much.

The CD player however seems to be working fine now with a new pre-power amp. The cause is therefore an 'X-Files' case now.

This can be the problem. Once i bought a second hand Philips CDP and same thing happened. Didn't try it at the high volumes when demo was given. But the reason of too many vibrations was two springs which hold the CD tray and suspension of lens assembly (one on either side) were missing. Obviously in this condition, a little vibration will shake the lens assembly. Installing the springs (local one) fixed the problem. Didn't try to repair it through authorised dealer because i had bought it for rs 1500 only (year 2007).
