CD to FLAC - With Song details - how?

Ok, so now I'm in the mode of ripping my CD's and saving the songs as FLAC - mostly for convenience. What software do you use to do the ripping? Is there a way to move over the song names, tags as well?

Tried using "Exact Audio Copy" downloaded from the net but can't seem to find the option for the song details.. if I have to type them in manually, i'm gonna quit right away :sad:

Do you mean ID3 Tag as song details. I use media monkey for organizing the files (both mp3 and flac). media monkey can edit id3 tag details in flac too.

I have been using EAC for more than a year. If your CD has the details you will get it automatically. Otherwise you need to type them in later and edit the tags.

Foobar can rip cds with tags using freedb. It works pretty well for me except for some regional music cds.

I bet you'll get all the tags available using 'Remote Metadata Provider' for 90% of the English & Hindi Audio CDs while you're connected to the internet.
As per my experience, data was not available for only few of the Hindi Albums I have.

Just insert CD, open EAC and click on 'Remote Metdata Provider' and you'll see few options and it will load the tags automatically online.

Apparently the metadata provider allows 10 CD rips free after that I need to subscribe, right?

Question: I used to play my other AAC, MP3 files via Itunes Airplay directly through to my Marantz SR 5006 remotely - Now that I am converting my CD collection to FLAC, iTunes doesn't support it hence I can't stream it through Is there is workaround for it??

I don't think there is any subscription charge for Remote Metadata Provider. I have ripped around 45 CDs so far with EAC in my computer and it worked very well without asking me for any subscription charges.

iTunes doesn't support FLAC. Because Damn Apple is always doing something niche, to grab its customers' money (pun intended)!!
No offense to Apple fans though !!
Apple has its own lossless format - Apple Lossless Audio Codec (alac).

Somebody in this forum suggested, we can add a FLAC player to any Apple device (that too demands a little money!) and this way, apple devices can also play FLAC files.

Use freedb. See the red box I have marked on the picture below. Using the drop down arrow, select freedb. And you will be able to use as much as you like.

And after you're done ripping successfully, do submit your accuraterip results (Database > Send Accuraterip Results). This will increase the database of accuraterip for that album by one more count.

For playback, I would suggest foobar2000.

Looking at your signature you have the Pi+TP20 combination. Can you please explain the details like whether you are using the usb dac in between or how is this working. Also it would be great if you can post these details on how you are using the Pi in another thread under HTPC section something which reads like "$40 raspberry pi..." so that others also will get to know as there are many followers on using Pi as a music pc...
