center channel - phantom or physical speaker

heard both - no center and dedicated center - and found

Audio Nirvana 15" for main, and 10" for center. The cabinets are custom built. If you notice, the center speaker here is a pair. I experimented if two drivers in their own boxes (getting the same signals) make the sound any less clear. They did not.

The mains are on 2A3 SET power amplifier and 4P1L DHT based pre-amplifier from Lyrita.
 
How about using 2 speakers for a center ..... It will eliminate the monoish ...... and it will also be phantomish as well and it will sound like as if the sound is coming from the TV and ear level as well .....

But center channel is a mono signal. Two speakers might not change the sound much, but could bring in phase and placement issues.
