Hey guys,

I would like to ask something...
I currently have an amplifier which is running my two front channels, I would like to know where to procure cheap rca cables.

By cheap i mean which can suit a student's budget but should be reliable and functioning , not the Rs50 wala chadni thing.

If anyone were to help me than I will be grateful.

Im located in kolkata so if its available locally then great too.

Thanks and regards
Soumyajyoti

depends on budget -

you can try DAC ones in hifimart - they are good VFM - I use them, found to be good.

Just to add one more thing which was kind of odd to me :

Marantz cd player comes with normal RCA cable that you may get in market, for a costly dedicated CD player such as Marantz costing
35K, I thought the cable provided would be a different one from normal RCA one.

well does it mean they don't believe in high end cables - not sure ..

Profligold and Bandridge are good brands. Also MX can be tried.
You should be able to find some at Croma, Reliance, etc. Online also.

I know Gotham are available in Mumbai. Not sure about Mogami. Pace Communication are supposed to be dealers for Mogami in India

Which Mogami cable we should look for? I am looking to use with my TT,so capacitance should be as low as possible.

Regards,
Sachin

Belden 1813A is a very good cable. Capacitance is 108 pF/m
Gotham GAC-2 has double shielding and complete coverage. Capacitance <105 pF/m
For Mogami, you can go for 2549 or 2534. Capacitance of 2534 is 97 pF/m
2534 is quad core while 2549 is dual core. Both serve different requirements actually.

I use GAC-2 and Mogami 2534 with Neutrik ends, both are excellent cables.
You will be hard pressed to find the difference between these and some $$$ cables from home audio.

Can you explain to me in details as to where to source from and what termination to use.

Pls see Santy's post. He has provided links for buying the Gotham GAC-2 cable and Neutrik connectors (actually REAN connectors, a brand of Neutrik - unless you choose the very costly Neutrik ProFi connectors). In my opinion, this cable is as neutral and as nice sounding as the more famous Mogami 2459. Both are balanced mic cables, and both have 100% copper braided shielding, and both are extremely flexible. They are the true antithesis of fat, pythonic interconnect cables:)

BTW, I have started using the Amphenol ACPR RCA plugs. They're made in Australia, costs Rs 120 per piece, and to my ears sound better than the REANs which have been my long time favs. Cosmetically and construction-wise too, the Amphenols beat the REANs. The icing on the cake is the ACPRs are available in red, black, green and blue coloured barrels. Available from Kiran Sales, Lamington Road.

Pace Communications is still listed as the authorised dealers for Mogamis but the last time I checked with them they said they have not imported any Mogami cables in years. But you can source it from US-based online retailers like Redco.

Another reputed cable (unbalanced only) is Canare GS 6 coaxial guitar cables. I would love to try this if only I knew where to source easily.

I also know someone I trust who swears by Sommer studio cables paired with above mentioned Amphenols.

Another option is to use Toyo's RG 174 coaxial cable for line level ICs. I used to use them for phono cables where they excel due to their low capacitance and excellent shielding. As a bonus, they're very easy to work with as they're think and fairly flexible.

In short, one can DIY extremely good cables for very reasonable money.

Isn't the Rs. 50 wala chandni (BTW, what is chandni in this context???) "thing" reliable? Doesn't it function? Can you please spell your requirements in a cable clearly? The only thing that I can understand is that you want an RCA cable cheap. Is that it?

As for reliability and function, I doubt very much that anyone here will recommend any cable that does not fulfill these attributes so you don't need to really mention that as part of your requirements.

Help us help you.

It is a local market called Chandni chowk market located in the centre of the city known for local speakers, amps, electronics, pirated cds etc. There are plenty of shops as well hundreds have occupied the pavements.

Joshua, that's a very reasonable price for the Amphenol's - all things considered. Thanks for letting us know.

Studio-grade cables are usually very good and will be comparable in sonics to much costlier cables.

Studio-grade cables...

The principle seems, to me, to use stuff like the music travelled along in the studio, and forget, because how could one do better?

Broadcast Quality Cables.

(Yes, it's my favourite cable company --- but one can read the articles without obligation to buy  )

The cables look great but I dont see as to where I can purchase them from. The links provided doesn't have that option, given that I may once again need to ask for your help regarding this. I stay in kolkata hence accessing kiran sakes shop is out of my limit, can you help me out in this part.

It is cheap but reliability is out of context. Very few things bought locally are actually good or decent.
