I have bought a new mcintosh MA 7000 integrated amp and want to upgrade my speakers, but not too expensive speakers around 1.5 Lakhs, is that a OK budget to get some good value audiophile quality second hand speakers.

"Audiophile quality" is very subjective. But generally speaking 1.5 lacs is an ok budget for pre-owned. You just need to keep an eye on deals actively. From time to time there are deals that will suit you.

A word of caution. Try to audition with your amp before buying. May seem like a hassle, but will save you the possibility of a disappointment later.

Excuse me but may I ask which speakers are you driving with an $8000 amp + shipping + Indian customs ?

BTW you can check out the AV Max Expo this weekend for speaker options with the MA 7000....

May I say you have one helluva amplifier there...congrats on your purchase...

:D cheap speakers for a mac???

A paradox in itself!

Jokes aside, I assume that you've blown the majority of your budget in acquiring the Mcintosh & hence asking for recommendations for a 'cheap' set of speakers. Do start a thread for them in the
'Wanted' Section of our forum where am sure you will get some responses to something in your range & requirement. BTW, what speakers have you currently paired with the mac? Source?

Best Wishes
:)

denom you have hit the nail on the budget thing, however i visited the AV Max expo in delhi and, stretched my budget to 2.5 L and more or less zeroed on to the Sonus faber venere 2.5, it had a nice worm sound, though lacking at the low thump a bit on "hotel California" the mid,s and highs were warm and smooth though in the price bracket of 2.4 L. may be i will attach a sub to compensate. has any one auditioned the SF 2.5 at the show and can give me a second opinion. I am using a (Jugar) for the speakers , custom crossover with bose 901 for the lower mids, One sub from Klipsch for the lows and titanium horn for the Highs. ( i am planning to sell that off now), they do not sound well with the Mcintosh, but went well with my Yamaha SA2000 amp & CD player CD-S1000, also up for sale. I intend to upgrade my Yamaha CD player with a DAC - M1 music fidelity. any recommendation whether it will make a great difference to the sound. or any other dack in the same price range, then i will keep the CD payer.

From reading many of the blogs and also from what i have spoken to a few "good ears" that were at the show and the SF 2.5 Venere was one of the best sounds of the show. Also at that price, nothing had the same sophistication and smooth quality of the venere. I think you have a winner here . However I believe there are no stock yet with the importers and you may have to wait a few weeks at least before you can get them ! Even the international press have good reports. Great amp by the way!

To my inexperienced ears, SF's sounded very very musical. They almost got me confused for cm9's. I did get the cm9 theatre for now (ordered the speakers today :D). But nevertheless, I will get a pair of these as well later. I think you can't go wrong with them at 2.35 lacs tag. Thumbs up!

Just read this post! Mate if I may ask you, the mrp is 2.35 lacs a pair for them, how much did you eventually have to pay for it? Just curious about the discount. Thanks!

thanks serum, i have booked the ones that were at the show, getting the SF delivery around the 20th March,

I just hapenned to build my own speaker cable after a lot of R&D, with silver coated copper wires in a Litz fassion. They are further shielded and the copper diameter is 10 mm( 2 Gauge) when all the 21 single stranded cables are put together. looking for good connectors to go with them. the whole cable is 32mm dia and looks great and waiting for my speakers to arrive and try them out. I bet they can replace cables over 80 K a pair, calculation by a friend of mine rated them to be able to carry 2000w RMS. if they sound good i am game to make and sell them. check photos while being madeIMG_20130323_155203.jpg

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
