Okay here we go. Just bought a new Samsung 7150 46 inch Television. My wife went out and bought me this all in one system from BJ's. It has an Acoustimass 6 system from Bose and a Pioneer VSX 5231. This system is in my basement. Anyway I set it all up today and am rather confused. I have a Main system upstairs with a Yamaha receiver, and Definitive Technologies Pro Cinema 800. Now I have one HDMI cable on that receiver that goes to the Television, and all other ones go into the back of the receiver. Now with that receiver I am able to switch to a certain HDMI ( sat Satellite TV.) and turn the receiver off and still watch Television. Now with my downstairs receiver I hooked up today. I have one HDMI cable from the back of the receiver to the Television. It is hooked into the ARC HDMI input on the back of the Television. And the Satellite, and Blu Ray go the inputs on the back of the receiver. But if I shut off the receiver while watching Television It shuts off the Satellite feed. So in turn I have to watch Television with the receiver on. Is this common with Pioneer receivers? Or am I doing something wrong? It is hooked up exactly as the upstairs one, so I don't understand the difference. Any help would be great, but if this is how it has to be this pioneer piece of junk is going in the trash. And I'm buying another Yamaha.

Looks like your AVR doesn't have HDMI pass through feature.....Nothing wrong with the AVR, juz the limitation with entry level AVR.... The higher series of AVR from Pioneer will have this feature.....

No it states it has 3d and 4k pass through right on the box. So this is why I am very confused

I think 3D and 4K pass through is different from HDMI pass through...

What it means is, it would pass on the 3D signal & 4K signal to a capable TV untouched.....

Four HDMI inputs, providing connectivity for all your sources like Blu-ray Disc players, cable boxes, and gaming consolesFour HDMI inputs supports both 3D and new 4K Ultra HD contentHDMI Standby Through is also supported allowing for your sources (cable box etc.) to pass through the receiver to the television even when it is in standby modeEnergy-saving ECO ModeStandby. Right from the contents

Ok... If it is mentioned in the contents, then it has... Try accessing the On Screen Display & see if you can locate the HDMI stand-by function...

Just check with AVR setting if it has HDMI standby pass through, you may have to turn it on manually. In Yamaha,we have to do it manually. If AVR doesnt have that feature, you can not.

For some reason I can't get anything to show up on the screen as far as a receiver menu. So I guess I have no way of fixing this. What a piece of garbage this thing is. This is why I never purchase any Pioneer crap.

Ok.. I juz located your AVR manual online....

Please look @ page 35, under " The OSD screen"... Looks like you need to connect thru composite to access OSD menu

As far as I know, your AV reciever does not support on screen display through Hdmi. For seeing the display you will have to hook your AVR to the tv via composite av cable, then only you can see the display settings on the tv. Once there look for Hdmi standby function. Enable it and your life is easy. Regards

Thanks for everything everyone. Figured it out through playing with the receiver. But I will get some cables so I can see the menu on my Television. Thanks again

So composite is just the red/yellow/white cables correct? Been a long time since I have used any other cable besides HDMI. Thanks again for your time.

So all is working great, except now when I play my new Samsung 7500 Blu Ray DVD Player it won't let me use the BD Wise option. Can anyone tell me why this is? I had the HDMI into the back of the tv into the ARC input figuring maybe that is why. But I put it into the Satellite HDMI input and it still won't let me choose the BD Wise option. Any help would be great? Otherwise I am just going to hook the Blu Ray Player directly back up to the Television and run a coaxial cable to the receiver for the 5.1 sound. Man this Pioneer really is garbage. My Yamaha was just plug and play.
