I recently misplaced the original charger for my dell xps 13. A replacement costs about Rs.2000, while a third party usb-pd charger retails for between 1000 and 1500 on Amazon.
Being a cheapskate, a bit of googling led to https://robu.in/product/pd65w-fast-charging-adapter-module-standard-board/.
So I shoe horned it into an old 65W laptop PS, which I had lying around.
It's an incredibly tight fit inside the laptop PS, so I replaced two 470uF/25V caps at the output with smaller 220uF/25V caps to make space for the usb-pd board. Else it's a straight forward job,. Just make sure caps in the laptop PS are discharged before you poke around.
End result below :)

thaks for sharing this.
so you have converted round pin adapter to USB c?
If we are not moving 470uF/25V caps at the output, can we still use smaller 220uF/25V caps at USB C?
if not, could you please advise the right part link for that option.

I didn't touch the laptop, or it's power port. The xps 13 accepts only usb-pd. It doesn't even have a traditional round power port. So all I did was convert the 19V of the old laptop PS to usb-pd. Nothing ground breaking, but shared since I thought it may come in handy for someone 😊

As for replacing 470uF x 2 with 220uF x 2 - in this instance it's OK since it's only a smoothing cap at the output. The voltage is anyway being regulated further by the usb-pd board.

Thanks again. I was also referring to old laptop PS, that must be not USB C type (either round pin or flat pin)....
