Dear friends,

I have seen d2h HD reviews regarding video quality only. But I could not get clear review about their audio quality.Whether their HD channels like Movies Now,Star Movies,Other Asli HD channels, NGC,Discovery,Sports channels and d2h Movies/songs are with 5.1 Dolby digital audio only? Can any body tell abt their audio quality

i can tell you airtel HD is like watching bluray all the while, the box comes with a optical out and when plugged into a 5.1 amp the sound is mind blowing!! see a demo and decide...i think airtel HD is the best there is out there...

even i'm very confused about which HD setop box to buy...

i've tata sky HD and my annual subscription is getting over in 1 month time. I want to stay with TS because they have good customer service. But i read that other providers has better SD picture quality.

But Videocon D2H HD has ESPN HD. But how is the quality of it's HD channels ? Is their any pix elation, artifacts etc ?

I am using d2h HD over a month now. I am satisfied with the service and quality of HD channels. Here is my take on the HD channels on d2h.

Video : A treat to watch , all HD channels are 'Asli' HD. No upscaling, no pixelations. NG HD and Discovery HD are simply superb. You can make every tiny details of the video
projected. And if you are a sports fan ESPN and Starcricket delivers live actions in a finest form. Iam just amazed by the quality of video. I have seen few movies on HD channels, again no upscaling or pixelations.

On a scale of 10 i will give 10/10 for Video on d2h HD.

Audio : d2h offers audio connection via HDMI or Coaxial. I have tried in both modes. The audio is encoded in Stereo PCM both for SD and HD channels. There is no 5.1 Dolby output. There is a option in STB to change audio mode from stereo to surround/home theatre. But the output is again stereo PCM in surround/hometheatre mode. But there is certainly a big difference between audio from SD channels and Audio from HD channels. Audio from HD channels are detailed, sound quality is good. But still no asli 5.1.

For Audio : 8/10

will u recommend d2h over airtel which has 5.1
by any chance can u compare airtel with d2h

If you are a movie fan, then go for airtel HD package, there is no ESPN/starcricket on airtel HD. And for movies 5.1 dolby standard with 1080p video will satisfy your needs.

Airtel is only 1080i , and no option to change the stereo to surround or HT mode in the box without using the coaxial cable.

All HD DTH are 1080i only. No one provides 1080p. Also even on a good dth, the PQ will not be as good as Bluray because each BD is 45 to 50GB and DTH cannot match that quality even in US, UK and countries.

Thanks for reply and detailed review. Now it is clear to me that d2h HD does not have DD 5.1 like Sundirect HD,Tata sky HD and Airtel HD. That means d2h audio is also like Dish Tru HD without 5.1 dolby digital.

I got both Sundirect HD and Dish truHD.I thought of changing Dish Tru HD(Very high price minimum Rs 450/month) with d2h HD becoz of more HD channels. But really if no surround system in d2h then no point in going for d2h.

I have to decide between Airtel or Tatasky
Airtel : More telugu channels but No Star Cricket HD
Tatasky : Star Cricket HD but Less telugu channels

Any chance of Star Cricket HD coming on Airtel HD??Any Suggestions

Hi, if you have a 5.1 setup, them you definitely need something with 5.1 support. Only Airtel and Tata Sky support 5.1 audio. I would still go with 5.1, even if at the moment I do not have a 5.1 setup, just more future ready. Dish and Videocon do not have support for 5.1 audio as yet.

Hi, all DTH content is broadcast on 1080i which is the standard HD format all over the world. HDMI carries video and audio, so you may connect a single HDMI cable to carry audio/video. If your set top box supports audio over HDMI, then an extra optical connection is not required.

i was wondering.... Does it require more bandwidth/space to give out 5.1 sound rather than 2 chaneel stereo sound ?

Is that the reason why D2H is able to give more HD channels ? Are they able to save space for more HD channels by giving out only 2 channel stereo sound ?

ESPN HD scores over 5.1 audio and anyhow TS is messing up the audio it is not like it is CD quality as they claim in their ads and neither the video is of DVD quality. Anybody with a decent stereo setup and DVD player can check up these two aspects.

@ dillihifi,

which HD box are you using ? i got 1 month of my annual subscription left on my TS HD. I'm intending to move to D2H is ESPN HD is not started on TS in 30 days time.

Me too contemplating moving to D2H nowadays stuck up with TSHD. Well they take the credit for being the first out there with the FIFA WC which made me go for it in the first place. My subscription runs out in mid sept. have some more money in the TS account will try to exhaust with another month and if there is no ESPN HD on TSHD would jump to D2H. The only reason I have not got it till date is I do not have the proper direction from my flat. Maybe will mount the antenna on my neighbour's balcony.
