downloads from cnet are quite reliable. just verify if its a freeware or a trial/shareware.
Most of the features of dbpoweramp are available in free audio players.
Why would you want purchase something like this?
And there is no difference between sound quality of different audio players (unless intended by the programmer)

Have you checked out using Exact Audio Copy, which takes some time getting used to, but has almost as good meta data retrieval as dbPoweramp
