Hi guys, I am building a villa and have a dedicated home theatre room. The dimensions of the room are 17'6" by 12'10" and height is 10'3". But at that height the ceiling slopes upwards ( I have a sloped roof), so the actual height at max point would be about 14'. At the back of the room is the door to the room, and across that is a window. At the front of the room on the left is a door to the toilet which is attached to the home theatre room. Wanted advice on how to go about building a good home theatre system. Any advice would be of great help.

Explain

Hello,

Welcome to the royal world of private movie room.

Kindly consider to explain the room in a more better way or in form of drawing etc.

We will be in queue to guide you for whatever we know.

Hi Vinay,

Have attached the drawings for the home theatre room. Look forward to inputs from everyone!

Regards,
Shankar

Wanted advice on how to go about building a good home theatre system.

First explain "good Home theatre", what i mean to say is, whether you want

(1)the very best HT room or
(2) mediocre HT room or
(3)just a simple HT room., and ur budget.

then only the inputs/help can follow properly.

Cheers

Movie Room

Hello Shankar,

Thank you so much for the drawings, but i am not able to fully understand, i am sorry for this, please consider to excuse me. I hope other members are able to understand and they start writing, which will give me the opportunity to follow them and we advice you on continuous basis. I think you should show enlarged drawing only of your proposed movie room.

Well to have a slope ceiling is always good compared to anything flat in nature this is what i have been given to understand so i have sloped my acoustic ceiling.

While your sitting area can not be the way you have shown, your sofa has to touch the rear wall and the individual sittings have to be placed elsewhere.

One thing is brilliant that you have started sharing the details at grass root level, so you could have very good end results and let me say that you are a very lucky man, that you are making a villa, which will have host of benefits, one of the bold step which you will have to undertake is not to have windows.

On the other hand please advice on queries which mandeep has written, because that could set the ball rolling. Your source of video will be a projector or televison? I am assuming it will be a projector, because you seem to be a very rich man, making a villa.

Hi guys,

A few clarifications:

1. The source of the video will be a projector. I will also have a TV. The screen will be a drop down in front of the TV.
2. I am looking at the HT room to be used solely for movie watching.
3. At this point in time I do not have a specific budget. I am looking at a decent HT set up. I am a big movie buff and enjoy my movies!
4. Vinay, the drawings I have shown are specifically of the HT room.
5. The seating shown are just schematics drawn up by the architect and not what I intend doing. But the location of the screen/TV is as per drawing.

Regards,
Shankar

Hello shankar, 2 cents from me, i would advise you take help of some acoustic expert since your room's ceiling, as i gather from drawings is having three slopes, a phenomenon in sound engineering known as reverberation is most important for good acoustics. "Reverberation is the persistence of sound in a particular space after the original sound is removed,Reverberation effects are often used in studios to add depth to sounds.Basic factors that affect a room's reverberation time include the size and shape of the enclosure as well as the materials used in the construction of the room."
So in your case your room is not having regular box shape get some expert advice and i gather that there must be some company or person who provide these services in your city. little search in the forum in acoustics section will help u.:) best wishes for ur HT

Other Movie Rooms

Hello Shankar,

It is a great news that your source of video will be a projector, about the TV, i think you should strongly consider to drop the idea for assorted counts, there have been members who had the TV in such a room or there have been some who were considering and eventually dropped it, you will also realize this sooner then later.

Since you are going to use the HT for watching movies only, there can be nothing anything better then that, you must use exclusively recliner, floor raiser, with foot lights, only halogens and no tube lights, etc.

One of the important things you should do is visit the theatre's of santosh, subhash and others to take a good feel as to how your things will shape up, the more such movie rooms you will see, the clearer vision will be at your disposal.
