Denon 1700H - On and off Display signal - is it broken

Hi all,

As explained in my post below - wanted to swap my newer but what I felt was a less powerful Denon 1700H with my older more powerful Pioneer 1020K just to get 7.1 sound - either from source or converted to 7.1. https://www.hifivision.com/threads/...s-needed-for-sub-woofer-less-than-50k.100723/

When we bought Denon from ground floor - where it was connnected to my 75 inch TV and two front and one center and worked well - to my first floor where I have my 7.1 setup - the display keeps flickering every few seconds and evey ten secs even goes blank for a sec before appearing again. We thought it was a HDMI issue and swapped cables but same thing keeps repeating. Did we do any damage while transporting from ground to first floor? is it a cable issue? resolution issue? Even discounting my source material, when I go into menu - it should display that without issue right? that too has same issue.

After spending a lot of time doing all sorts of jugaad to fix my kinda ceiling speakers and being in full josh to experience 7.1 and having wasted what I think was 65-70K on this Denon - disappointed now.

Pls help me out..if you want I can post a utube video on our experience. Thx in advance as always for all ur help and ignore the poor English!!

Plug back into your 75" TV and check. If its not happening, then its the issue with the TV on the first floor. Try another HDMI terminal on the TV.

Yeeah..I did that yesterday and seems to work...seems HDMI issue...but funnily same HDMI cables seem to work on every other combination. Need to buy new cables

You should disconnect everything to the TV and check. The TV itself maybe acting up. Don't waste time with a perfectly working HDMI cable. Investigate and isolate properly first

I anyway ordered a 2.1 8K cable short one for around 400 blue rigger and also a Gen 2 50 feet cable for 300 C&E brand. Not really sure how a 50 feet prev gen cable is cheaper than 6 feet latest gen!! Hope it works..should get delivered in a day or two.

Luckily after we connected the 6th and 7th speaker to my old pioneer - In Kodi audio settings, am able to see DTS and Dolby 7.1 options. So will try and stick to this setup and see if I can force it to output 7.1

Sadly my pioneer is too old to work with newer android apps and the remote is broken. So I bought this generic remote from Amazon..which only works for some basic functions. Need to figure out how to manually force it to covert all signals into 7.1 using the buttons on the AVR

Since there are no reference quality 7.1 blu ray western classical concerts, hoping it will convert a youtube western classical concert video into 7.1. Always wanted to experience this!
